Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Rush (the F1 racing movie)
I think this movie is excellent, and Daniel Bruhl should have been in the Oscar running for his portrayal of Niki Lauda. Chris Hemsworth (sp?) was very good as James Hunt as well; I couldn't think of a better choice for him. Ron Howard really delivered on delving into the rivalry/relationship of these two men, particularly with its focus on the 1976 racing season. One of the top rivalries in F1 history...and an interesting relationship.
You do NOT have to be a F1 fan to love this movie.
To dangle one more carrot, Olivia Wilde also has a part in the movie, and she is always good AND always easy to look atGO 'HAWKS!

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Rush is one of my favorite movies in the last couple years. No movie shows the spirit of real competition like Rush does.
That part where Niki is on the operating table seeing James win after win while vacuuming his lungs was fantastic. You could feel the fire in his eyes.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
For all intents and purposes, the kid did exactly what he was supposed to do: annoy the crap out of us. My annoyance shifted from the kid to the mom about halfway through the film, also something which I believe was intended.
If people told me it was a drama or love story or whatever, I would have loved it much more. Telling me it was a horror film was terribly misleading. It wasn't scary, and it was bad at horror. I like it more as a drama, but annoying characters certainly are annoying, whether intended or not. It's hard to get behind.
SpoilerImagine this as something much more ambiguous as to if this was all real or just in the woman's mind. That last scene where she goes into the cellar and feeds this thing a bunch of worms is just a dumb choice.
The kid could be less annoying and still get the point across, but that's not what ruined the film for me.Comment

I will say I hated that ending that Burns referred to. But not enough to ruin the rest for me.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Good to know.... I think they each stand on their own.

dickey, you can ignore 1 & 2 and then check out 3 and 4.
3 introduces Simon Pegg's character, 4 integrates Pegg with the group and introduces Renner's character. Both have Ving Rhames (very limited in 4 though). J.J. Abrams directed 3 and Brad Bird directed 4. There isn't much variance in the action in 3 (a lot of Tom Cruise running, no real stealth either) but I thought it was more stylish than in 4 given Abrams' directing, and PSH serves as a much more memorable foe.
At any rate, they are great films and like I said in the OP for Rogue Nation, I really like what this series has become (starting with 3).Last edited by Blzer; 08-03-2015, 01:06 AM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I love westerns, even crappy ones but man, I watched last night that really tried my patience
White Comanche (1968)
William Shatner has a double role as a drifter and his brother who believes he's the Comanche savior and is out for blood. The good twin decides he's had enough of people hounding him thinking he's the crazy Comanche and thus sets up a final showdown at a small town. Said small town has a general and a shady saloon owner fighting over territory which he gets caught up in the middle of along with the town's sheriff.
The actual story isn't too bad but the acting is atrocious. I'm not sure if it's dubbed or not as this was filmed by a Spanish crew but there was that kind of feeling to the dialogue. Throw in the fact that the director used crazy dutch angles for most of the interior scenes and I thought I was watching the old Batman TV series set in the west!
Needless to say I barely made it through the end. I need something better to cleanse my mind of that experience. Hopefully this Kirk Douglas/Johnny Cash western A Gunfight (1971) will be just the ticket.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
My summer movie review guide. I caught all of these at our local drive-in from my extra comfortable lounge chair except Ant-Man.
1. Jurassic World - Loved it. Entertaining from start to finish.
2. Ant-Man - Didn't think I would like it, but I was happily surprised and very entertained.
3. Avengers: Age of Ultron - Good movie, but I liked the first one much better.
4. Minions - Cute and funny. Good laughs throughout.
5. Vacation - Surprised reviews were as bad as they were and it wasn't as good as the original, but it was clever and had me laughing hard throughout.
6. Tomorrowland - I was entertained watching it and enjoyed it. Wasn't as earth shattering as I think it wanted to be.
7. Southpaw - Jake Gyllenhaal is a great, but everything else was kind of average. I wasn't bored watching it, but it could have been much better.
8. Inside Out - Had great reviews, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. Was extremely happy it started raining hard during it and everyone wanted to go home.
Missed but really wanted to see: Mad Max: Fury Road,- LETS GO RED SOX!!!

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Trainwreck was okay. Didn't like Amy Schumer, but John Cena and LeBron stole the show. Cena had me rolling with his movie theater bit.
Only character I really felt for was Bill Hader's. Seems like he was the only character that was truly a good person, I didn't really like anybody else in the film, especially the magazine writing crew.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Schumer was the driving force of the movie and did fine, but it missed on a lot of laugh out loud moments. The one I remember that fell short was the reference about "premium nursing homes" being the one where the staff doesn't "fool around" with the patients.
Side note: I had no idea she was Senator Chuck Schumer's cousin.
EDIT: OK, "second cousin once removed". So I guess that means Amy's father or mother was or is Senator Schumer's second cousin.Last edited by JayBee74; 08-04-2015, 05:10 AM.Comment

You didn't like Cena's characters or LeBron, who you say both stole the show? Cena played a very sympathetic character, and LeBron was extremely likeable.

When I read his post though, I either see him as saying: "I liked their performances, even if I didn't care for the outcome of those characters" (which really didn't have arcs), or you can see it as he already listed that he liked them, thus they are not included with "anybody else."
It's like me saying: "I like red. Blue and black are also pretty cool, too. I'm not really fond of many bright colors. I'll take green as long as it's a forest kind of green, not a big fan though. I don't like any other colors, though." When I said my last line, you can't suddenly think that I don't like blue, red, black, and dark colors since I already listed them beforehand haha.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
So last night I watched A Gunfight (1971) I'm not the biggest fan of westerns that upend the genre a lot but this one wasn't too bad. Kirk Douglas and Johnny Cash were pretty good in it even if I wasn't all that thrilled with the story.
BTW there's a clip of Cash from this movie in the music video "Hurt".Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
