I watched Nightcrawler the other day. The movie is well done and I liked it until the ending. I was left dissatisfied though.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I'll watch anything Jake Gyllenhaal stars in. I loved his performances in Donnie Darko, Enemy, and Nightcrawler. I'll probably end up seeing Southpaw just for him, even though I've read mixed reviews.
EDIT: Oh and how could I forget Source Code. Very underrated movieLast edited by KSOR24; 07-30-2015, 03:23 PM.GT: assassinK24Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Source Code was great. Good call on that. I'm a sucker for movies like that and Deja Vu.
Interstellar might be one of my favorite movies of all time. I don't really have a list, but that movie was just incredible. Lived up to and exceeded the hype to me. Didn't get that same feeling from Inception though it was still a good movie.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Couldn't disagree more. The two main characters were way too ****ing annoying and were too big of a distraction for me to ever really be terrified or scared. The little kid did nothing but scream and it annoyed the **** of out me haha.
Was so disappointed with it. Had heard great things.Comment

That little boy annoys the hell out of me. I hated his acting. Honestly he really killed my vibe. Wished I could enjoy it like many of you but I didn't. Movie was pretty weak in my opinion.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
For all intents and purposes, the kid did exactly what he was supposed to do: annoy the crap out of us. My annoyance shifted from the kid to the mom about halfway through the film, also something which I believe was intended.
If people told me it was a drama or love story or whatever, I would have loved it much more. Telling me it was a horror film was terribly misleading. It wasn't scary, and it was bad at horror. I like it more as a drama, but annoying characters certainly are annoying, whether intended or not. It's hard to get behind.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I don't know. I just loved the sense of dread throughout the movie. Every time it became night time my stomach just turned in knots. I was nervous.
Also it helps that I actually was fairly scared of the Babadook. I don't know why. But that thing haunts me. It haunts my girlfriend more, she couldn't sleep in the dark last night.
Also I didn't mind the kid because I thought he served his purpose perfectly. He was supposed to be an annoying little ****. And he was.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
A couple of movies recently viewed, one was a bit of a revelation to me and the other I could barely keep my eyes open for:
The Big Operator (1959)
This was a pretty awesome movie and one that sees a couple interesting acting turns in it. Mickey Rooney plays a corrupt union boss who will do anything to get his way including staging a fake workers strike, having a guy burned alive and kidnapping someone who saw him commiserating with a hired hoodlum which could sink his career as he's under investigation by the senate. He doesn't seem to be in the movie a lot but every time he's on screen he just chews up the scenery and really comes across convincingly as a more dynamic Jimmy Hoffa type. His role in the movie is enough to recommend it IMO but wait there's more....
Mel Torme gives an authentic and energetic performance as the main character's best friend. Torme's character is exactly how I picture blue collar guys back then. Loud, brash but loyal to a fault. Previously, i've only seen Torme more or less play himself on Night Court so it was nice to see him doing something completely different. I get the sense that he channeled a lot of what he saw in his youth for this role.
One other thing this movie has going for it is the violence. There isn't a ton of it in the film but what there is, is far more explicit than what you'd expect from a 1950s film. The interrogation scene between Rooney's goons and the main character looks to be an inspiration for one of Tarantino's movies as well.
Solid little hidden gem. In fact, just about every movie that i've seen distributed by Olive Films could be put under that category. Olive Films is a solid little DVD distributor to say the least.
Now for the film that put me to sleep:
The Mummy (1959)
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the famous Hammer Studios out of Britain. I've seen some of their movies and I can appreciate the gothic horror elements and such but there are times where their movies bore me to tears. That being said, the films from that studio that I like, I REALLY like. The Mummy is an interesting flick, it's obviously very studio bound but the acting is quite good and there is some good tension to it but the whole middle part of the movie is so dreadfully boring (including an overlong flashback) that I fell asleep a few times.
I can actually appreciate what they were doing here but I just couldn't muster up the strength to watch it all the way through without dozing.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Worse in my opinion. Yelling, screaming, complaining, crying....Did I mention how bad his acting was? He was so annoying it got to the point where I didn't care if the babbadook gets to him. Imo it was just a bad movie.Comment
