I rented FWMF back when, but re-recorded it on a free HBO weekend and would like to check it out again.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Watched Dracula Untold in 4k today.
A few scenes seemed brighter than I remember when I first saw it several years ago.
Both the wife and I really enjoyed it. I always thought it was cool that they gave a character like Dracula an origin story and did it in a way that wasn't a horror film.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
The Lighthouse
Robert Pattison and Willem Dafoe are two wickmen operating an isolated lighthouse on a rocky island miles from shore. A storm causes Pattison's departure and return home to be delayed.
That's the gist of the whole movie and basically an excuse to dive into an isolated mind. Or attempt to. The director's previous film, The Witch, was a much stronger film from top to bottom. The narrative was tighter, themes more apparent and viable, and was a much better viewing experience overall. Eggers certainly knows how to craft an atmosphere that emits from the screen. One of unease, anxiety, and distrust. Pattison and Dafoe are both phenomenal, thankfully. Perhaps additional viewings will allow the movie to open up, but I never had that problem with The Witch or other similar movies that seem to split the audience into two distinct camps.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Decided to take the Scorscenic route before I go for my Irishman run as I’d never seen Taxi Driver or Raging Bull. Taxi Driver was dope, and I finally get the Joker comparisons because wow it really was just Taxi Driver with clown paint. It was done much better in this movie, though it’s interesting to think Taxi Driver came out in 76, then the subway vigilante in 84, now Joker, art imitating life or life imitating art? So that was dope. Raging Bull I thought was pretty good too, De Niro was just eating these parts.
So I’ve had Goodfellas in my PS4 for like 2 weeks and haven’t watched it yet. What I did watch, for the first time, was Training Day, BOOM. “You’ve been planning this all day?” “I’ve been planning this all week son.” And that was halfway through the movie! Just too dope, so now I’m also about to go on a Denzel binge. Glory added to the queue.
So I need to watch those, finish the gangster chronicles with Scorsese, and there’s a doc called Peace Officer about the militarization of the police that follows a dude who started a rural SWAT team for that team to kill his son a bunch of years later so that should be interesting.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Kill The Irishman --- 2nd viewing --- unique mob film and Christopher Walken to boot! Worth seeing if you haven't.
The Winning Season --- if there's ever a bad Sam Rockwell film, this is it. But you can tell it's purely because of the script. It's just so amateur.Comment

Rurouni Kenshin Part I: Origins
Rurouni Kenshin Part II: Kyoto Inferno
Rurouni Kenshin Part III: The Legends Ends
Whoa, these flicks were awesome! It's a trilogy surrounding basically a Samurai vigilante of sorts, with a "no kill" code like Batman (if you're wondering how he does this with a sword, he has a reverse-blade), only with an actual legendary Samurai past where he had killed many. It's not wholly grounded in reality, but it has enough of it to work the way that it does, and you don't ever really "question" anything about how it plays out.
The swordplay choreography in these movies was insane and well worth watching! Tagged in spoilers are some random fighting gifs that you can check out, though the proof really is in the pudding of that which are the films themselves, when you see it all done together with the character's heart, combined with the score and sound effects. It's really compelling stuff.
