Last night was a slow TV night for me but, I happened to come across Children of The Corn on encore. I had watched this movie before when I was younger but, really didn't remember to much about it except the parts that was parodied buy South Park.

All in all, I think it was a classic 80s horror movie. I mean those kids were pretty freaky, especially Malachai and Issac. It would definitely recommend watching it around Halloween then, go out to a Haunted Corn Maze and see if you don't get scared. lol

      My Rating: 5/10

I saw The Informant last night. It was an interesting story but has horrible marketing. It's really not a comedy at all and the few people who were there(I went really late so there was only like 4 other people) left, probably because it's not funny. There are funny parts but I think if they just advertised it as a drama people wouldn't be disappointed.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

That's disappointing. This movie was at the top of our theatre list because we thought it was a slap-stick type comedy. Matt Damon is a great actor, imo. He can be such a dip, like in the Ocean movies, then kick butt like in the Bourne movies.

Not sure if this qualifies...but just watched a Chicago/Earth Wind and Fire concert on blu ray. Nice show in HD. Definitely a keeper.

Simply, if you have any soul, sense of humor, and eyes and ears... go see it, and prepare to laugh your *** off and clap erroneously.

I guess I don't want to spoil anything though, but this movie is plenty awesomely gruesome. It has its slow moments (by "slow" I mean many zombie-less moments), but it certainly does not disappoint even then. There is also a great cameo appearance. Anything below 90% on RT for this movie, even for top critics, is just pure hate on their end.

Needless to say, I would love to see an uncut version for this movie, whatever they took out at least because this was actually pretty retched as is!

The movie definitely has heart in it. It's a Hollywood heart, but it's heart. It's the kind of humor that Wanted tried to capture in its movie, but failed at miserably. And Eisenberg has a little Michael Cera in him, but he can play it in a "bad-***" way. I must admit that there is definitely a lot of time that is without zombies, but it really does make up for it relying on comedy that delivers. I just think it's a kind of movie that critics can't really dislike unless it's ripping off another kind of zombie movie too much, you know?

Woody Harrelson is just hilarious the entire time! As the tagline says, "Nut up or shut up."

One movie I've never been able to watching in it's entirety is Schindler's List. It's gut-wrenching and hard to watch but it's a masterpiece of a movie by Steven Spielberg. It's making the rounds on the HBO channels. I still haven't been able to sit through an entire viewing but it's so well done - both really tragic and mesmerizing at the same time.

Showtime has a weekly series on the AFL that I caught for the first time last night. Seems to be well done. Last night they touched on what black players had to experience/endure going to certain parts of the deep south - just helps to remember what players had to go through not that long ago. Was only the last quarter or so of the program but was pretty insightful/hard-hitting.

History Channel had "102 Minutes that Changed America" on a few weeks ago on the anniversary of 9/11. Again, another hard program to watch but was very well done.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

I watched 3 movies overnight well really 2 1/2 but i'll get to that later. I'll save you the long reviews and give a general thought or two on them:

Prince and the Pauper (1937) A pretty faithful adaptation of the source material. I mean Errol Flynn didn't even have a woman to romance in this thing! The twins who played Prince Edward and Tom Canty were pretty good and there's was a charm about them that was enchanting. The movie got kinda slow around the 3/4th mark but picks up at the end and is pretty decent. I'd recommend it for family viewing 3/5 stars

The White Tower (1950) Okay I lied, I have to gab about this movie quite a bit because it really impressed me! Here's the summary:

The White Tower, a Matterhorn-like mountain in the Swiss Alps, has never been climbed. Carla Alten's father, a famous mountaineer, died in a long-ago attempt. Now, Carla, determined to fulfill her father's dream, has assembled an unusual climbing party to tackle the nearly-impossible ascent
Sounds a bit bland based on that doesn't it? but it really isn't. This movie has a lot of very dependable stars in it and was done in magnificent technicolor which was highly unusual for RKO which was known for crime dramas filmed in back lots. Howard Hughes spared no expenses with this film by having it done on location in Switzerland and filming in color.

The movie had no less then Glenn Ford as a reluctant member of the party who only joined because he was smitten with Carla. Valli (who is best known for her role in THE THIRD MAN) as Carla who is determined to climb the mountain. Claude Rains as Paul DeLambre a famous novelist who's gone to the Alps to write a book about the White Tower. His story is tragic as he's one of those artistic types who need inspiration yet his wife always calls his work trash and only supports him because of the money he gets from his books. Oskar Homolka as the peasant guide Andreas. He's a very friendly sort and knows the way up the mountain even though no one has ever climbed the top. Cedric Hardwicke as Dr. Nicholas Radcliffe a Dr. of failing health but who loves the thrill of mountain climbing. Finally Lloyd Bridges as Hein, a very determined fellow who will climb to the top at any cost.

The 6 of them go climbing the mountain and one by one some are left behind to go back to the valley as they can't make it to the top. At one point when Andreas has to help Dr. Nick back down the mountain they decide to make camp and wait until he comes back but Hein decides he must get up to the top. Paul decides he will go up with him. By the time the others get to meet them there's a raging storm and Paul is literally exhausted to the point that he can't talk. Sadly, overnight he succombs to his addiction to liquor as he took 2 bottles of brandy with him. He has drunk one whole bottle and is drunk and hungover the next day. They decide they should wait til he clears his head but Hein forces the issue and says they should go on without Paul. Paul agrees and urges them to go ahead and he will stay at the camp.

They eventually agree and Paul goes ahead and drinks out the 2nd bottle while finishing his great novel as he curses his wife for he know she will call his masterpiece trash etc etc and so he leaves the tent knocking over the last of the brandy into the fire causing the tent to burn down as he rips the manuscript and walks down the mountain never to be seen again. This scene is the most powerful scene in the movie and Claude Rains gives it a vitality and pathos that few actors could.

The rest of the movie shows the growing love between Martin (Ford) and Carla while at the same time the tension between he and Hein is heightened and then Martin finds out why Hein is so belicose as he sees the outline of the Nazi Eagle on Hein's cap. The last bit of the movie is an egotistical battle between the two as Martin and Hein try to get to the top.

That's all i'll say about that but the ending of the movie could've been better though at the very least it's not quite what you'd expect before the ultimate "happy ending".

                          4/5 stars WONDERFUL MOVIE!

                          and finally....

Gold is Where You'll Find it (1938) A rare technicolor western that was so boring and insipid that I fell asleep halfway through. DUD

I went out and watched Jennifer's Body last night. It was actually a lot better than I had expected. It's not a great movie, of course, but it was good for what it tried to be. Quite a bit of clever writing.

Don't expect a riveting movie, but it was entertaining nonetheless.
