I'm assuming he watched this one and not the 2004 one with Elisha Cuthbert that we're all thinking of.

There's worse movies she could drag you to, considering it looks like Anne Hathaway spends pretty much the entire movie naked.

I saw it just a couple of days ago. Strangely, this is my first movie post in here maybe since the summer, though I have seen a lot of new films since then. A very nice original film here, and I can't commend Sam Rockwell any more than the job he did in this film. Truly awesome. Loved the Spacey casting as well.

Strangely, I would consider this movie far from predictable, but it was funny how my mind had actually stumbled across a few "what if" moments along the way, and at times was actually correct. I wouldn't call that predicting any outcomes, but I should give myself more credit for at least guessing ahead of the game sometimes. It was all in good taste though, this movie was very well done.

Won't be added to any collection of mine, though. I have just always been fascinated with space since I was a kid, and this fulfilled my intrigue well enough.

LOL I did that a few months ago. Such a great show though, and that damn opening tune was stuck in my head for weeks.

I watched Boot Camp earlier. A 2007 film starring Mila Kunis. Eh, it was decent. Was expecting a lot more yelling, physical activity, etc like real boot camp. It was more psychological torment though.

two movies i should have seen MUCH earlier.

Michael douglas was amazing as was Jeff Bridges.

I watched Run Ronnie Run over the weekend. I thought it was very funny, I don't know how I missed it when it originally came out. David Cross so is freaking hilarious.

Also, the other night I couldn't sleep so I watched You Kill Me on Show Time On Demand. From reading the synopsis the movie seemed like it had promise. It was about an alcoholic, hit man who tried to turn his life around. But, it ended up being one of the worst movies I have ever sat through. I wouldn't recommend seeing this unless you're one of those people who like really bad movies.

A couple westerns/cowboy movies a couple decades apart. I'll do this chronologically.

                          King of the Pecos (1936)

                          Summary:

To control the area's water rights, Stiles kills the Clayborns. Their boy John was present and ten years later he returns as a lawyer. First he gets the Judge to declare the water rights public. Then he foils Stiles' attempt to keep the ranchers from filing. When the ranchers drive their cattle to market Stiles tries to stop them. But John is not only determined to get them through but to also settle the score with Stiles
This is one of those B Westerns from RKO pictures but what makes this interesting and worth watching is the fact that it's one of John Wayne's early movie roles before he became a living legend. The movie is pretty straightforward in its plot and the characters are realized pretty well for a movie of this type.

John gets himself involved in matters as a couple of cattleman who were tricked into Stiles' scheme ask for his help. They're very stereotypical but the actors that play these two made it watchable. One of 'em is an old crusty gunslinger type and the other is hard of hearing which leads to most of the "comic relief" in the movie.

You really get to see Stiles' unscrupulous ways as after he loses his claim to the water rights he has his own hired lawyer killed! So you see what kind of bad men are the villains of the piece.

As for John Wayne he did a pretty good job in this flick. He didn't have that drawl that would display for many years or the stiff walk either but he was young, fresh faced and tried his best to portray the character rather than play to type. One other thing about this movie that surprised me was just how well preserved it was. It looked like it never aged as far as visual quality goes. I guess this is because it was a John Wayne film that it got preserved so well.

                          I give this a solid 2 stars.

                          The Proud Ones (1956)

                          Summary:

Robert Ryan plays an aging sheriff responsible for law and order in a frontier cattle town. Virginia Mayo plays his fiancee. As if handling wild cattle drivers isn't enough, a crooked casino operator from Ryan's past comes to town. An early scuffle in the casino leaves Ryan with vision problems that interfere with his duties. Jeffrey Hunter who came to town with a cattle drive encounters Ryan, who killed Hunter's father when Hunter was young. Feelings of animosity soon change as Hunter begins to sense Ryan is telling the truth about his father. What follows is a plot that continues to thicken to the inevitable showdown.
I have to say this was a bit of a hidden gem to me. The movie plays up on some elements of High Noon but it isn't blatantly obvious until you've seen the whole movie. This film had many great scenes in it and it's probably Robert Ryan's best film or at the very least in the top 3. You really get the sense of his character being an honest man who has to prove himself all over again as well as to seek revenge on the crooked casino operator Honest John Barrett. (played to perfection by Robert Middleton)

The aspect of this movie that I love most is the relationship between Ryan and Hunter. Jeffrey Hunter totally believes that Ryan killed his father in cold blood and tries to get revenge but instead he soon realizes that Hunter had his reasons for doing so. There are a couple great scenes in this when Hunter who is now his deputy are on night patrol and one of Barretts' hired goons tries to kill Ryan but Ryan kills him before he could draw his gun. This was exactly what happened to Hunter's father and Hunter believes that Ryan did it in cold blood. Ryan then has to chase Hunter down and show him that the hired goon was going to draw his gun. Hunter doesn't quite believe it but goes along with the idea.

The two then go target shooting the next day and we get an awesome scene where Hunter intends to kill Ryan and come back to town declaring himself the new Marshal.

All in all this was a particularly fine film and the idea of Ryan's character getting a concussion/blurred vision and headaches is a novel one as it plays a huge part in the film. Everyone does an excellent job in the movie although Virginia Mayo didn't have much to do but look pretty and warn Ryan towards the end of the film. The movie also is graced by great performances by supporting character actors Walter Brennan and Arthur O'Connell who play Ryan's deputies. Hell, the movie is so rich that even the town drunk plays a bit of a role in the film and has a touching scene at the end.

I give this 4 out of 5 stars so if you're a fan of westerns from the '50s I urge you to watch it as it's widely available on DVD.

Deepwater-Starring Lucas Black and Peter Coyote. Really good movie on Netflix Instant. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers check it out. Reminded me a lot of Shutter Island, which is a good thing. The ending was terrific. Only negative was the acting. Lucas Black is a terrible actor and him in a lead role was tough to watch.

Watched "Devil" . Most people bag on Shaymala (spelling?) and rightly so. I enjoyed this one though. Felt just like Agatha Cristie's Ten Little Indians.

I did correctly pick out the "Devil" well before the end of the movie.

Skyline- Terrible movie. The special effects were nice at times. It was like a high budget SC-FI original movie. The main character was a pretty terrible actor throughout most of the movie.

The story itself was blah. I understand not everything needs to be explained, but when the Aliens are ripping out human brains to power themselves up....how originally did they operate before coming to earth?

The ending.....BLAH felt like something ripped right out of a videogame. I guess its on to the next one. Harry Potter was Excellent by the way
