Over the weekend I was able to watch The International three times. This is a really good movie. Like it a lot.

I also watched this Thai movie with English subtitles called 6ixtynin9 on the Sundance channel. Strange movie -- yet it captured my interest enough to stick with watching it. I hope it comes on again soon as I wouldn't mind rewatching it.

Also caught Dinner Rush and Made on IFC channel. Dinner Rush is a fairly good movie with a wild ending, while Made was absolutely hilarious.

holiday movie viewing: Avatar, Terminator Salvation, Inglourious Basterds, Star Trek and District 9.

Star Trek - I had seen it earlier but bought it on DVD and watched again. It was a really good movie and I would love to see another JJ Abrams Star Trek movie.

District 9 - I had seen this before as well but it was a bootlegged version where the picture was terrible and the audio was so bad I could barely make out the dialogue. Seeing it in Blu Ray gave me a new appreciation for the movie, I really liked it a lot.

Inglourious Basterds - What a great movie, even though it was different that what I was expecting from what I saw in the previews. The writing and dialogue was just superb.

Terminator Salvation - It's nothing special but I liked it. Unfortunately anything with the Terminator name will be held to ridiculously high standards because of Terminator 2, but I liked where Salvation went and hopefully they'll continue with that direction in another movie in the series.

Avatar - I loved this movie. Saw it twice, once in IMAX 3D and once in regular 3D. To see it twice in theaters in the same week speaks volumes about how much I liked this movie considering I've been to the theater about five times in the last three years. I want to go see it again.

          Street Fight

A documentary about the 2002 Newark New Jersey mayoral race. It was excellent. One of those better and stranger than fiction stuff that if it was not true you would not believe it. Story almost feeels like old 1800's new york with Tammany Hall and all the dirty political rangering.

You're in the Army Now (1941)

An interesting if somewhat ineffective "morale booster" type movies that were prevalent at the time stars Jimmy Durante and Phil Silvers as lovable but incredibly bumbling vacuum salesmen who get suckered into joining the army! There are some jokes and scenes which work but the overall flow of the movie isn't as good. I liked a lot of the stuff in the first half hour of the movie and the climax is a hoot as they drag the colonel's house with a tank through the town. Of course they leave the tank so close to the edge of a cliff that the house nearly falls over with the colonel, his daughter and a general inside!

I give this about 2 stars based on some of the jokes and the enthusiastic performances of Durante and Silvers.

I did believe Up deserved its ranking. Wonderful movie.

Don't get me wrong, it was very wonderful. But it wasn't the best movie I saw last year (considering #1 is a movie I haven't seen yet). It was certainly the best animated movie I saw, but I felt like Pixar didn't really "revolutionize" this time around like they had with their other movies.

Durante was a great and unique talent with a one-of-a-kind look and voice (still love hear him singing "Young At Heart") and Phil Silvers, though not a personal favorite, was the top sarcastic comic at the time. Anti-establishment kind of a guy.

I should take back my previous reply. Really I despise lists. I looked at that list as more of a checklist. Obviously people have different tastes, sometimes the mood you're in or your personal experiences attach you to a certain film. My "list" would be laughed at by some, who cares, I may have enjoyed or didn't enjoy certain movies. So I apologize if I sounded confrontational or judgemental.

On that list I was surprised Duplicity was on it, a movie I didn't care too much about. But I did agree with Up, The Hangover, and Inglorious Basterds. Three movies I enjoyed tremendously; three movies I have put into my collection.

Oh indeed, Durante is great in anything i've seen him in. He even makes dreadful movies with terrible scripts bearable which is why I watched that whole movie. It wasn't the strongest film but Durante made it very watchable. There's a scene early on where he is on the piano and Silvers is trying to get him to sing clearly and it's almost 3 stooges slapstick stuff. The main joke being "not the hands not the hands!" as Silvers keeps slapping Durante or squishing up his face LOL

I like Silvers a lot but mainly as his Sgt. Bilko character. I think if Silvers were around today he'd be pigeonholed in the sleazy, fast talking comic role which he kinda was back in his prime but it would be more noticable today because back then he did get to play some characters that had heart to them.

Agreed. I watched Up last night for the first time. My favorite part of the movie was in the beginning when they documented the relationship from the two little kids meeting to marrying to old age. Just seemed to capture it perfectly in just a few minutes and got me emotionally engaged with the main character.

Well put, that pretty much pinpoints the connection I made with Karl Fredricksen. It pulled at the heartstrings seeing what he experienced allowing you to understand and accept he was a "grumpy old man." For an animated movie I could see adults enjoying the movie as much or more than a child.

Yep. Defintely felt like a more grown-up Pixar movie.

My third favorite Pixar movie behind Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo.
