Casino - Its a great story and a good movie with excellent performances. I had never seen the whole thing before. Pesci does his thing and his last scene is fun to watch considering his actions. Sharon Stone was hot in the beginning, goodness.

          How to Train Your Dragon

I finally got around to seeing it, and it warmed up to me similarly to how most Pixar movies seem to. I still get turned off my the human models that Dreamworks pours out as well as a lot of the celebrity voice acting, but as far as visuals go they really improved with things like the hair, water, and camera work, and the score is excellent! I wasn't too interested in any of the scenes or story lines not involving Hiccup and Toothless, though. It was a solid film that I would watch again, but it's not jumping to my Blu-ray collection any time soon either.

Watched a couple the past few days -

Thor - Liked it, actually more than I liked Norton's Hulk. Very good origin story, and since I knew nothing about the Thor story or anything, it was all new and fresh and I didn't pick up on anything they may have changed. Hemsworth was a damn good casting call, as well, and Natalie Portman is always a plus. Good movie.

Hangover 2 - I liked this one too. Laughed quite a bit, we'll see how it holds up after a few viewings.

True Grit - Another good one, though I was a little let down with my expectations going in. Hoped I was going to enjoy it more, but Damon, Bridges, and the girl (forget her real name) were all good in their roles. Didn't deserve any awards, though, so I'm not as surprised it didn't really contend in the big ones.

Due Date - I actually liked this one more than I expected, but that's because my hype-level was rather low. Good back and forth between RDjr and Zach-G. Predictable, but still enjoyable.

              Drive Angry
It's like a grindhouse version of Shoot 'em Up mixed with an episode of Supernatural.
I was pleased. Won't win any awards and it's not for everyone but it was fun. At the very least I highly suggest typing "drive angry roadblock scene" into youtube and watching the first video that comes up.

Got around to seeing Apocalypse Now for the first time.

Great, great movie (the first 1/4 is just pure awesomeness), but the ending left me unsatisfied.

The concept of the movie was fantastic. The execution was pretty good as well. The movie started off very interesting though, it had a nice unique feel to it but it fell down the average route about half way through the movie.

Bradly Cooper is pretty good in roles like this and seeing De-niro again in something thats related to "The Fockers" was good.

I must say though, the whole idea on about the pill was genius. It really does ask the question, would you ever get off of a drug that gave you the world literally and everything you ever wanted......

Easy A (finally): Loved it. Very funny, Emma Stone is great in it, just an overall really enjoyable movie.

And I'm now filled with the strong urge to answer the question "How are you?" with "A is for awesome!" whenever asked.

The Mechanic - Excellent guy flick. Jason Stathan fans will love it, but you don't have to be a fan of his to enjoy this. Great action. Ben Foster does a tremendous job as well.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I watched a pretty good movie called beg, borrow or steal starring Frank Morgan (You'll recognize him in Wizard of Oz)

Here's how he looked most of the time though:

Morgan was known for being a great character actor but he was afforded the opportunity to star in some films as well and Beg, Borrow or Steal (1937) was one of them. The movie is great when Morgan and his cohorts played by fellow character actors are on the screen but once their gone it kinda drags.

Here's a full summary of the movie so be advised it spoils the end but really this is one of those movies that has a formula and style that's shopworn:

We find con-man Ingraham Steward living by his wits by steering wealthy Paris visitors to sellers of fake paintings and other assorted dodges. He and his wife, Agatha, have been separated for 15 years, but he promises to give their daughter, Joyce, a lavish wedding at his "château" in France. The fact that he doesn't have a château in France is just a minor trifle. He induces the caretaker, Bill Cherau, of a large country estate to allow it to be used for the wedding. The wedding party arrives and Bill falls madly in love with Joyce and she with him, but a gal has gotta do what a gal has gotta do, and her intended marriage to stuffed-shirt Horace Miller stays on the books. But Steward has a change of heart and he tells one and all that he and his friends, Von Gersdorff, Lefevre, Iznamof, Clifton Summitt and Sasch, are all frauds and crooks. Horace and his family stalk out, which is just fine with Joyce as her true love, the caretaker, is waiting on the grounds. That he turns out to be the real owner and also a Count appears to be a surprise to all...
Basically think of Morgan's Steward character and his cohorts as being similar to the two main characters in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels but with more humanity to them. As I said earlier the laughs come from the interactions of Morgan and the other bit players who make up his pals with some very funny scenes such as when one of Morgan's friends tries to bilk the parents of the groom out of a ton of money to buy a fake country estate as Morgan tries to talk them out of it.

Another great bit in the movie comes rather late as Lord Brammer comes back to the Chateau only to get swept up and pretending to be someone else posing as himself in order to enjoy the scam that's going on as he and Chereau are actually quite lonely.

One of the best scenes in the movie is when Brammer is regaling the guests about his life with royalty and such which was so far fetched that Morgan tells him he's not behaving like a Lord and so tries to bring Brammer back to earth LOL.

Anyways this was a good flick. The humor isn't all LOL but it's got an easy going charm to it.

                              *** 1/2 stars out of 5.
