I watched the Kids Are All Right with my wife. We enjoyed it. It had some funny moments and the acting was quite good by all actors."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." SidVish"I thought LeBron James was just going to be another addition to help me score."

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I watched Meatballs starring Bill Murray the other night on dvd I picked up cheap. I always loved this growing up and still love it. The overnight campfire scene always makes me laugh. Just a fun camp movie with heart and Bill Murray's first feature role in movies. Are you ready for the summer?"If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment

There Will Be Blood
Jacob's Ladder
No Country for Old Men
Three movies that I liked and and found thought provoking but
Spoilerall three did not have pleasant endings. I found the ending to No Country for Old Men particularly unsatisfying. I do know that this movie is based off the Cormac McCarthy novel and I understand the desire for movie directors to leave endings up to the viewers imaginations, but sometimes this goes too far where there are almost no closed ends in my opinon. Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
I know I was just informed not to see this, and after seeing that teaser trailer nearly one thousand times I almost wanted to abolish the film entirely, but I was with a group of people and couldn't exactly tell them all to switch to something else. It was the most appropriate film to see given the time we went there, anyway.
Overall, it wasn't greatly disappointing like IndianBird thought. Granted, I stayed for the entire filmbut even at 40 minutes in, I saw myself wanting to know what would happen at the end. This was a film with a well-built creepy element, but the "reason(s) to be afraid of the dark" were beyond lackluster. I don't want to give any spoilers, so I suppose I'll leave it at that.
However, one thing I want to give a notch to was the filmmaking. The camera work was so original and fantastic for a film of this nature. It was frantic and claustrophobic, but not in the sense that it was too close to see anything. It had scope and depth, but the lenses that were used really made it perceptive, in the sense that we are there with the characters.
Like most horror films, they give you a disoriented family, skeptics mixed with believers, and rather unthorough resolve once the credits start rolling. For something that builds up to want to be something, it seems like it threw a dart at a wall of different ending types, landed on one, and they stuck with it. Oh well, it wasn't a disaster. There just wasn't enough worthy storytelling here, beyond the mysteries which clouded the film (and what little we learned from them, in fact). Perhaps that's why it's noble to walk out in the middle of the screening.
For anybody wondering, this movie was neither a scarefest, nor did it really intend to be one. It was often times grimacing, and did what it could to make you want to see how the film ended. Too bad they didn't work harder on a deeper unraveling once it all came to a close, though. Oh, and it was a moderate R-rated kind of horror movie. Not too much violence/terror, and I can't recall a single swear word (beyond "hell," "damn," etc.) being said in this movie either... for people who were wondering.
I would definitely say this is better than Insidious, and to not let an annoying crowd take away from the good aspects this films brings. Which reminds me, I have to stop going to see horror films on their respective opening nights. When you're trying to get into it, teenagers just kill it for you, because they can't seem to shut the **** up.
How Do You Know
So after the movie, I came home and saw my younger sister had four friends over, and they had rented this film from our Blockbuster. I came in about 25 minutes into the film, and decided to stick to watching it.
Unfortunately, this film was like going to a Heat game and watching the entire bench play all 48 minutes: it was simply a waste of talent. When you have Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Jack Nicholson, you can come up with a more interesting screenplay than this. Literally, only about two events happened in the entire film (at least from what I saw). It wasn't witty, it wasn't sweet, it wasn't fast on its feet, and it didn't seem to care what the audience wanted as an outcome.
Focal points constantly transitioned between the three main characters (where we knew what one was thinking at sometimes and not the others, then it would make a switch), and the scenes literally brought nothing to the table when it comes to "capturing excitement." I think the problem was that, this movie felt more like what people go through and converse about in their everyday lives (with the additive of relationship drama), as opposed to being able to see the extremes of people's lives, which to me is what movies are all about. This movie's green light came from putting well-known actors in front of the camera, and that was about all it had going for it. Unless I missed something fantastic in the first quarter of this movie, I'd say this is definitely one that should stay on the shelves, even if it's ladies' night.Last edited by Blzer; 08-27-2011, 12:46 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

One of their biggest WTF endings in a film has to be A Serious Man. But, I was satisfied because I knew that for A Serious Man and No Country For Old Men (as well as many others from them), the main plot was told. The main character learned something. I got to experience their growth. All stories continue. The Cohen's don't seem to believe in tying things up with a pretty little bow.
I prefer it that way."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I've always felt like No Country for Old Men wrapped up all the story-lines and concluded the characters at the end. There weren't any new questions to be answered or anything that never really got resolved. The ghost fades away the same way he, apparently, has always done and TLJ wraps it up with a nice parable of his dream.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I Want To Be A Soldier. Started out somewhat interesting. The acting was a bit light. It seemed to give Danny Glover something to do. Then it just seemed to sputter and fail. Then..... Robert Englund showed up. By that time I had enough.
It was weird though... the main kid actor had this familiar look to him... then it hit me:Comment
