Worst big budget movie i've ever seen was Mars Attacks! I understood the spoofing of 50's Alien/sci-fi/B grade movies but it was FAR too over the top and the story was just blah. Usually with movies i'm interested in I watch the majority of but with Mars Attacks! I turned it off after 10 minutes.

Mars Attacks! is a riot. That's more a matter of taste, not necessarily movie quality.
Battlefield Earth is a truly horrible movie, Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever is another lousy-all-around piece of trash.
On a smaller budget, Half Past Dead comes to mind, though the same can be said for at least a handful of Seagal movies.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Oh well...
Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever WAS truly horrific. I remember someone gave me the DVD for Christmas one year. A week later the movie was in the trashMember of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

It seems like that's how a spoof/parody has the tendency to go, all or nothing. I can watch almost anything from Mel Brooks over and over again, but can't for the life of me get through History of the World.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Ok let's try to brighten things up.
Actually, first this nugget. Tried to watch Zombie Strippers last night because someone told me it was awesome (Can't recall where. An article maybe?). Uh, wow that movie was bad. It basically has a porno plot with porno acting but without the sex.
I did watch TiMer last week. Liked it a lot (at least that's what I told Netflix). Not exactly a very good film but I liked what it did, what it tried to do for what it is. That was then. My excitement for it has died considerably.
It isn't very conventional with its ending -basically blowing up any reason to care about the relationship that is established at the end - but considering the film tries to challenge the concept of love (it kind of fails at this by never settling on an opinion) the ending makes sense.
The issue is the ending serves no greater purpose to the inner-heart of the film. The main character's challenge and awakening is abruptly killed by luck or chance. The film laughs at the mere thought of love as luck but then positions itself with luck by using it as a tool to complete the character's story. Unfortunately, the character learns nothing but what the audience learns: people are sheep.
It's too bad because had luck not been used as a tool, the film would have hit it's mark. Everything it was meant to be (and for some reason decides a supporting character should learn) is everything it kills.
Not a bad option for a nice romantic comedy that men may actually root for because it backs their stereotypical thoughts for most of the film.
Also watched Chloe which I had to watch because I'm in love with Amanda Seyfried (it's a problem. I'm considering watching Dear John just because she's in it. I know...).
The film received the Netflix four stars (of five) and will drop to a three tonight. As thrillers go, this is pretty good. The story always makes sense, the audience is ahead of the game (very Hitchcock in that way) and is left with the suspense of wondering how this will play out.
What ultimately hurts this film is its intention to give the audience the answer before it really needs it. Throughout the picture it becomes increasingly obvious that lies are being told yet there is never any visual evidence to support this.
While I'd usually side on a film that cleverly avoids the truth by hiding moments (Such as seeing a guy die and never seeing who shot him), those films usually use twists and turns to distract you. Chloe does none of this. It feeds you the truth and forces you to watch a protagonist struggle finding out what you already know for an hour and change (Not very Hitchcock).
The end result is satisfying for the protagonist, but the nemesis's story is lacking depth. There is never an explanation for Chloe's actions. She just does them. Even the self-motivating Joker has a back story, even if it's mostly fictional.
The absolute ending scene even tries to recover from this by laying a hammer on the audience but its effect fails because the meaning is lost when a symbol holds no value.
If you like thrillers, you might still enjoy it.

Went and saw Lincoln Lawyer this morning and really enjoyed it. If I had one minor gripe it was the pacing at the end as it seemed like they took their time letting things unfold throughout the movie and then rushed through the ending somewhat but outside of that I really enjoyed the movie.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
I saw Limitless and I'm mad I wasted $11.50 (damn California theaters) watching it. I liked it until probably around the last third where it felt like they decided to get to the end as fast as possible. Oh and the end is terrible, they definitely could've done more with it but they either ran out of money or want to do some kind of sequel.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Sucker-Punch
First i have to start by saying the Soundtrack to this movie was AWESOME
Now on the movie itself....it sort of tried too hard to tell an interesting story. The main story was very sort of simple, maybe too simple for its own good. The beginning of the movie was very well done and the music really added to the atmosphere.
Now the actual action and cinematography were awesome. The scenes were very well coordinated and the look and color of them was vibrant, definitely where Snyder excels. Here also comes some very interesting decisions; each action scene was soo different from the prior one is was very hard to make a connection.
The segment where their fighting the dragon, they're fighting the dragon in mid-evil times yet their flying a plane and using gatling guns. The settings in which the action scenes took place were sort of out of place. But the pure action from those scene were definitely fun to watch.
The saving grace of this movie lies in the fact that the actresses were actually pretty good. It just sucks that half the time they had to exhibit P.M.S. but they did a good job with the script they were giving.
Humm Snyder is doing Superman, so far all of his movies have a very dark look to them, their color hues are all browns and blacks, i'm hoping he adds color to Superman. The one downfall of Sucker-Punch was the lack of a true defining story and finding out Synder wrote the script and story, i'm hoping someone else writes Superman and he only uses his expertise in cinematographic
Having watched it only several hours ago and not having expecting a lot from the movie, i give it a nice

I watched "She's Out of My League" this past week. It actually wasn't bad. There were some funny parts in it. I think I was more drawn to the story because I can totally relate to the main character, unfortunately. Well, yeah, I was also drawn to Alice Eve as the lead actress too. Pretty good. Wasn't a big fan of the Hollywood ending but it kept me entertained. Felt a lot like Next (with nic cage)Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1
Just watched John Carpenter's The Thing on Netflix. I had never seen it before, mainly because it was made before I was born, but I can see why it is considered a classic scifi/horror film. Thought it was fantastic and the special effects hold up fairly well considering it was made in 1982. Loved the ending and how it is somewhat open ended. Some of the scenes were just downright freaky.
I would place it right up there with the Alien and Aliens as the best scifi/horror film I have seen. Wipes the floor with most of the more modern movies in the genre. My Teams
