Watched The Secrets In Their Eyes last night. Good flick from Argentina with a lot of heart and soul. A former detective tries to solve a 25 year old rape/murder case. Recommended if you do subtitles.

I watched safety not guaranteed the other night. It was pretty good. For fans of the league, duplass is pretty great in this movie

                      Excision

Thought it'd be a horror movie like May. Sad girl chops people up but really just wanted a friend. It wasn't. It was a really dark comedy. Ups to the fx team. The main girl doesn't look a thing like she does in real life in the movie. A few laughs but a giant meh overall.

                      Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal

Well...the title says it all really. You should know if you'd like it based solely on that. I was not disapointed.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I had a double bill of cheesy action movies

                        Red Heat (1988)

This is not one of Arnie's best movies but it did allow him to stretch a little in a way as his Russian cop character was evocative of Greta Garbo's role in the classic film Ninotchka. Jim Belushi was pretty good in his role of the Chicago cop Arnie works with. Belushi played well off of the robotic, uptight Arnie. The plot isn't the greatest but it lends itself to some good action and a few funny moments.

I'm glad I stuck around though as the beginning was um....kind of offputting with naked muscular men in some foundry type setting.

                        Anywho, 2 1/2 out of 4 stars.

Next up was Carl Weathers in an '80s tough cop flix starring as the main character....

                        Action Jackson (1988)

This gets a bit of a low rating on IMDB but I find it to be a guilty pleasure flick as Carl Weathers tries to be a bad *** in the mold of Shaft or Dirty Harry. It doesn't quite work as Craig T. Nelson as the major bad guy doesn't quite work for me. It's pretty comical seeing Nelson doing martial arts moves in his fight with Weathers at the end of the movie. \

The comedic relief in the film was quite good with the hoodlum kid who gets scared out of his wits when two patrolmen tell him how bad Action Jackson is and the kid literally faints a couple times. He ends up running into Jackson throughout the movie. The patrolmen also appear throughout and while their language is rather rough there was a "realness" to it that you don't often get in these kind of movies.

Sharon Stone is also involved in this but doesn't really have much to do. The movie is undermined by the putrid acting of Vanity whom Weathers has to protect throughout the film but her interaction with him is also "real" in nature.

It's definitely a flawed film but I enjoyed it.

                        2 out of 4 stars.

My local indie cinema is showing this for a week starting Friday. I'd love to see it.

                              [REC] 3

Compared to the first two it's complete crap.
On it's own it's an average zombie flick that was almost complete crap but just barely managed to save itself from the rubbish pile and climb to the lower end of mediocrity.

The camera views only last 20 minutes. Soon as things get going it changes to the common cinematic style. It lost all intensity, originality and uniquness from the others. This is going on at the same time as the first so it doesn't add much to the overall story. The vet that worked on the dog is attending a wedding before the outbreak in the builiding happens. There's a scene with a news report on TV outside the building in the backround but otherwise doesn't much connect.

                                The Girl

HBO movie about Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren's relationship during the filming of The Birds and Marnie. Pretty average film. Tons of unintentional comedy. Seemed like everything meant to be creepy, came off hysterical to me. Hope the motion picture release turns out better.
