Re: What movies have you seen recently?
SpoilerThere was nothing dark about the movie until De Niro's character showed up. I was okay with that, I guess. It was a bit of a satire of 70s crime drama anyway. O'Russell did the same thing in Silver Lining's Playbook when he was playing off of Cooper's bipolar character, though that was a darker film in general I guess (when incorporating the whole family).
This movie had no chance to feel dark since people switched who they loved every second. If there was only one switch about 70% into the film, it would have probably hit a bit more. Maybe if Bale fired a bullet as well or his heart condition played a bigger factor at some point like he gets hospitalized. Nice for his Irving to get the upper hand in the end though.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched Blackfish on Netflix last night. It's the documentary on Tilikum, the orca at Sea World, and how/why he has killed multiple humans in his life.
It was very well done, but it was kind of tough to watch at times, seeing those beautiful and incredibly intelligent animals living their lives in concrete pools.
Some "spoilers" below (I don't know if you can "spoil" a documentary, but just in case people don't want to know about any specific scenes in the doc)
Spoiler
I felt awful when they separated a mother and her baby, the mother sat in the corner of the pool screaming. You could just tell from how the whale was acting and the nature of the screams that she was absolutely grieving, in distress. Then they brought in the expert and he determined that they were "long range calls", she was calling out, looking for her baby
It was kind of maddening to hear what Sea World was telling their trainers/tour guides, to "inform" the public with bold faced lies, like that orcas only live to be 25-30 years in the wild (they actually live closer to 100), and that they have better lives/live longer in captivity.
I agreed with the trainer at the end who said "I think we'll look back on this 50 years from now and think 'what a barbaric time' ".
I recommend watching it.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

The other movies have been put on the backburner as tonight is Fruitvale Station and tomorrow is now Runner Runner, which looks terrible but I watch virtually every movie released so figured Id take a flier on it regardless.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
BURN
It's a documentary about the Detroit Fire Department and the struggles they are encountering in the wake of the collapse of the city of Detroit.
Very good film about something that I find utterly disgusting.(yes...because it hits home for me)
How a city in the U.S. can be "allowed" to let it's people down......have it's workers(I'm sorry, but especially emergency personnel) try and perform their duties under dangerous(and illegal IMO) is beyond me.
Eye opening to say the least.
Since the film...and the city going bankrupt.....Detroit has been allowed to pay the F.D. pensions at 16 cents on the dollar.
Criminal.
(I won't go any further because it would definitely be edging into T.O.S. territory)

I really enjoyed 2 Guns and watched Don Jon last night and didnt really care for it much, wont spoil it but I still am not even 100% sure what the point of the entire movie was in the end.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Stay.
Just watched it. Very interesting. It's the kind of movie that I feel as though I couldn't adequately explain to someone else without potentially ruining the experience for them.
If you do decide to watch it, I recommend you go in blind, so to speak, and just watch the film without checking anything about it beforehand.
Starring Ewan McGregor and Ryan Gosling, with a few other names as well. It's available for viewing on HBOGo right now.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I watched Full Metal Jacket again today but if I went very in depth about the movie I think I'd break quite a few TOS.
It's so wrong to laugh so hard at some of the lines in that movie. It's a masterpiece of a film.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Christmas Vacation
An annual staple in our household. This movie's been out for nearly 25 years and I've seen it at least that many times, and yet, I still find myself laughing at all of the jokes, and I'll even catch a line or two that I may have missed in previous viewings. Chevy Chase is at his peak in this movie, and Randy Quaid's performance is very strong. An absolute must-watch for those that enjoy Christmas-themed movies.Comment
