Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Same twist, slightly altered reasonsSpoilerIn the remake, in college Youngboy sees a classmate having sex with an older man, he tells everybody about it and they all call her a whore. She leaves college and the family moves to Luxembourg. Turns out the old guy was her dad, reason they moved is the college found out, Dad goes murder-suicide on the family but the brother survives, that's why he puts him in the hole and tricks him into having sex with his daughter.
Overall I liked the original's reasoning better, he was younger, and a little more innocent. Remake he was just an ******* and, considering I was in college almost 20 years ago (ugh, I was in college almost 20 years ago), the whole thing calling her a whore was far fetched.
The final ending was different as well, original he went off into the mountains and hired a hypnotist to forget everything. Remake he pays the guys who had him locked up to lock him back up and gives the daughter a spycam hidden in a rubber duck so he could watch her, which I found creepy. Even creepier, when he was in his room watching her, he had the same pillow on his lap that previously he had used to pleasure himself as he was going crazy in the room. Ick. Not sure if they intended that, but still, WTF.
Edit: Just went and looked again, I don't think the video of the daughter was real, it was just a dumb decision to kind of superimpose her onto the window behind him. Still a ******* ending.Last edited by Burns11; 06-30-2014, 01:29 AM.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
How to Train Your Dragon 2 - Other than this movie's pace being a full on sprint from the get-go I really enjoyed it. Not quite as much heart and soul as the first one, but it still had a good amount of charm.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I watched Night of the Living Deadlast night.... The original from the 60's.
Man, I can imagine the big deal that movie made when it came out. I mean, the gore is tame by today's standards, but people must have been bugging out. And there were no restrictions on age at the theaters back then, so I'm sure some little kids got scarred for life.... Lol.
The acting is rough and the gore is silly compared to modern horror, but the story still holds up.
It was filmed in the Pittsburgh area, probably an hour from my home town, so I have that little connection with it.
I have been trying to get my hands on West of Memphis for free or cheap somewhere. It's not on Netflix or Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime streaming service only has it to buy, not rent.
It's a documentary about the West Memphis 3 and the murders at Robin Hood Hills. It's a really interesting crime mystery and investigation into societal biases and preconceived notions. HBO did three documentaries (the Paradise Lost series) on it.... I highly suggest you watch them.... I believe they are on Netflix, but I could be wrong. I know for sure they are free to stream on Amazon Prime. If you like crime mysteries or documentaries, definitely watch at least the first doc in the series.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Nebraska. Quirky, offbeat. I've always liked Bruce Dern, even as the despised villian pickin' on little cowboys. And it was good seeing Stacey Keach again. I think you have to be in the mood for this kind of movie. I will say there was a heart-warming side to this, but the pace is very slow. However, some of you guys will love the presentation/antics of Dern's wife.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Really not sure how I feel about it, to be honest. Wahlberg was good, but they just could not keep the focus on on part of the storyline could they? It just seemed like villains were popping up left and right and you would honestly forget about half of them until they show up an hour after their last appearance. That bothered me.
SpoilerThen they went that whole KSI route and didn't really explore it a whole lot other than just setting up a 5th movie. I think they could have held off on revealing that Megatron had basically corrupted the human-built Transformers at least until the end of the movie. Introducing that storyline midway through the movie just cluttered the film up IMO.
The action shots were pretty good, at least they were a lot better than the previous films. Still couldn't really tell what was going on though during some of the fights.
The movie was also just waaaay too long for what it eventually gave us as a whole. Was it really necessary to go 3 hours?
Most movies I go to in the theaters I get really into, but with the Transformers series, I just think about when the end of the film is coming, sadly. Not that they're essentially bad films, they just don't interest me all that much. I guess the big, robotic, alien, sci-fi films are just starting to get stale to me.
I'd give it a 7.5/10. Probably the last Transformers movie I'll pay to watch, though.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I saw how to Train Your Dragon 2, it was pretty good.
Summer boredom is beginning, so I'm watching DVDs I have around my house; Step Brothers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, the Other Guys (Will Ferell DVD 3 pack) are all hilarious. I watched Dark Knight Rises yet again, still love it.Ravens: In Ozzie We Trust

22 Jump Street. Kept me entertained, with several legit funny moments.
If you see this, make sure you stick around for the credits. The "sequels" were just as funny as the actual movie.
I nearly lost it when...SpoilerJenko was running around the precint laughing about Schmidt banging the captain's daughter. I'm sure it took a couple of takes for Ice Cube to keep a straight face.
Also the fist fight at the end between Schmidt and Mercedes. Loved her dry humor.Comment

I thought it was good but had the potential to be a great movie if they had fleshed out the characters a little more. Still worth a watch for the nostalgia factor.Currently Playing:

I've been watching bad horror movies on Netflix. I'll skip the reviews and just say that the movies I list, only watch them if you want to be entertained, not for the cinematic quality.
