Watched The Hunger Games with my wife tonight. She had been bugging me to watch it with her and I'm glad I did. A lot better than I thought it would be. Looking forward to watching the sequel very soon.

Kill the Messenger: Without violating TOS, I'll just say that it reminded me of All The President's Men and shone a light on a story I had never heard of. Took liberty with the facts and probably puts too much faith in Gary Webb's reporting, but I enjoyed it.I write things on the Internet.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched an HBO documentary called Night Will Fall about the making of a British documentary about the Holocaust that was abandoned. Very sobering film with so many ghastly images that have never been seen before. By far the most disturbing images of the Holocaust that I have ever seen.
A very important piece of history that should be seen by all adults so that we never, ever forget what true evil men (and women) are capable of.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Watched two excellent documentaries.
"Rising From Ashes"
This is the story of the national cycling team in Rwanda and how they came to be. You want to be inspired? Watch this. There's some very sobering moments in this as they recount how the genocide happened and why. Forrest Whitaker is the narrator (also an executive producer) and he does a great job. As someone that's really gotten into cycling the past few years, this was amazing to watch because the sport has a tendency to get caught up in how much bike X costs and why you should ride brand Y over Z. These guys literally rode 20-to-30 year old bikes, did all the maintenance and just enjoyed the ride. It'll make you re-think your priorities when you ride, at least it did for me.
"Desert Runners"
Follows a group of people looking to complete the "Desert Grand Slam" which is 4 250-kilometer (basically running a marathon for 4-5 consecutive days) races at various deserts (ranging from the Sahara to Antarctica). These are not professional racers, just regular folks (albeit a little crazy to do something like this) attempting to do something extraordinary. The film does a good job of really making you feel a connection with the runners, so you feel their pain/struggles as they attempt to complete the task at hand.Currently Playing:

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Red Dawn (2012 remake): thought the title sounded familiar and after, maybe during, I looked it up to see that it was. But it's a good take on what were to happen if the US got invaded, although the invaders (North Korea and Russia) seem way too disorganized. Kept me on the edge of my seat, though the ending was somewhat anticlimactic. Favorite part? The girl Toni... apparently it's the same actress who played Tyra on the TV series Friday Night Lights. She looked familiar but I wouldn't have guessed. Must've been the dark hair.
Snowpiercer: for some reason, I thought this movie got killed, so my expectations were low. Not that I'm a movie critic in the least, but I was very pleased with how it unfolded. Reminded me of The Hunger Games, but on a train (and better, movie-wise. Books were great). Some real kick *** action scenes due to the setting and great contrast between the darkness and tight knit feel of the train and then the vast, frozen, white-out of the outside landscape. Is Chris Evans considered a good actor? Love him as Captain America, but he left some to be desired in this flick. I really liked the main Asian security engineer guy. Although you may know how it's gonna end, you gotta see how it happens.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

50 Shades of Grey. I'm so confused about the ending.

The Interview. I watched this one day on my cpu when the power went out at my school, downloaded it. It was pretty funny. Rogen and Franco have a great relationship and great chemistry together.Comment

Zero Dark Thirty: Great, great movie. It flowed really nicely and had plenty of "Oh ****" moments. Couldn't have done a better job depicting the UBL raid; was worried going in that it was going to be hokey.I write things on the Internet.

I won't see everything she puts out, but as long as she sticks to this kind of film I will have faith in exactly what you had a trepidation toward.Last edited by Blzer; 02-15-2015, 09:36 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Taken 3. Well, if you like a movie where there are constant cut scenes and shaky camera, then this is for you. This movie showed why they should have stopped after the first one. I swear, I could probably count on one hand the scenes where the camera angle lasted more than 3-4 seconds. The dialogue was awful as well. Oh, and Forest Whitaker is basically the same guy from The Shield, albeit toned down slightly, whose character I didn't exactly love either.
There should have been a scene with Neeson on a phone in the beginning:
"Listen to me, I don't know who you are who's watching this, but this is a movie without a very special set of camera skills....."
However, there was one part where the camera didn't pan around or shake as much....
SpoilerThe ending credits.
