If I was to do something like that Scream and Final Destination franchises would be in there. Also you have to at least 1 Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Went all noir last night
Shockproof (1949) Pretty damn good movie for the most part. The female lead was Cornel Wilde's wife. In fact, Wilde said he wouldn't star in the film unless she was cast. She was okayish but there were times you could tell she was trying too hard. There is one major letdown of this film and frankly it destroys the entire film so if you ever see it turn it off afterSpoilerthey decide to turn themselves in
The ending was so bad that Douglas Sirk left Hollywood for a couple years and screenwriter Samuel Fuller was pretty much pissed off. What happened was producer Helen Deutsch nixed the more appropriate downbeat ending and tacked on a "Hollywood ending". After I saw that ending I lost all my enthusiasm for the film. It's still recommended though because other than the ending it's quite good.
Roadblock (1951) This movie on paper has the set up of Double Indemnity but other than an insurance investigator falling for a femme fatale it's a completely different film. Tough guy Charles McGraw plays the hard boiled good guy Joe Peters while Joan Dixon vamps it up as the gold digging femme fatale Diane. They happened to get together after their plane had to make an emergency landing and Joe more or less falls for her. She happens to be the girlfriend of a guy he's investigating and Joe, who's totally enamored by her throws his principles away and hatches a scheme to rob a mail shipment with the heavy. As the film progresses you see Joe losing every ounce of his dignity slowly but surely til the very end.
It's a bit predictable that way but the film holds your interest and the acting is pretty good. It's a little weird seeing a gruff, tough guy like McGraw falling for a woman like that but it works here. I definitely recommend it.
The Naked Street (1955) I end the night with a flourish watching one of my favorite actors in Anthony Quinn. I've seen this movie a number of times and it's still just as good as when I first saw it. Quinn plays crime boss Phil Regal who's dedicated to his mother and younger sister Rosalie. (played by a very young Anne Bancroft) It turns out that Rosalie is pregnant out of wedlock by a punk kid named Nicky Bradna (Farley Granger) who's slated to go to the electric chair. Regal pulls out all the stops to get Bradna out by legal means so that he could marry Rosalie. Turns out, Bradna is a real loser and more or less spits on his good fortune by stepping out on Rosalie and doing his own thing. Regal then frames Bradna for murder and things progress from there as a crusading newspaper reporter played by Peter Graves gets involved.
Quinn is excellent in this as he's both tender and menacing as Regal. Farley Granger is pretty good as Bradna as you really see that he's a loser punk kid who made all the wrong decisions in life and paid for it. The other actors give good support and the ending to the film is one of those ones that will give you pause as it's expected but the way it's presented sets things up for a rather messy life for the surviving characters.
Excellent film worth seeking out.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Dope
I enjoyed it a lot. Didn't love it because of where it went towards the 2nd half of the movie but definitely a fun coming of age movie.
Surprised by asap rocky, he did pretty good for his small role. Also thought it was hilarious that Stacey from The Wood is in it as Stacey.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
It's hokey, sure, but still enjoy Hocus Pocus as a Halloween watch. Tend to watch it each year, kind of like Nightmare Before Christmas around Christmas. Coraline is also a nice Halloween watch.Last edited by LambertandHam; 10-08-2015, 12:47 AM.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Even though I despise the director, Jeeper Creepers 1 is a good Halloween flick.
Also just got done with Ju-On (The Grudge). Excellent flick, the Japanese just know how to look scared as **** when they see a ghost.Comment
