Oh goodness did I have a rough one last night.

My daughter was under the weather last night so she got to choose the Saturday Night Movie, she chose The Best of Me, enough said.

Re-watched The Amazing Spider-Man (2012). I definitely figured out what I disliked about this. It was The Lizard's face. It was too human. Everything else was done so well.

Saw Nightcrawler and John Wick last week.

I figured John Wick would be really bad based on previews and most recent Keanu movies being pretty awful, but it wasn't bad at all. Decent revenge-style action movie that was worth watching. About on the same level as the first Taken in terms of quality to me. Good not great.

Nightcrawler was pretty good. Not a Gyllenhall fan at all, but this was his best performance and best movie of his that I have seen. Not something I necessarily need to watch again, but it was good for what it was and was something I needed to see once just to see what the fuss was about. I don't think anyone deserves any awards for it though. I found Gyllenhall/Bloom unlikable in his role unlike other psychopathic anti-heroes like Patrick Bateman, Tyler Durden, or Travis Bickle which really made this movie come off kind of flat to me.

This weekend we watched Take Shelter. I'm a HUGE Michael Shannon fan and thought he did an incredible job, as usual.

The only thing that I didn't really like was:

I was recommended Push (2009) by someone and wow, I thought that was a pretty good movie. Dakota Fanning was fantastic especially in the scene when she was drunk LOL. Overall, I liked the sleazy feel of it being set in Hong Kong and the plot, while somewhat complicated CAN be deciphered and followed. I only wish it didn't have a semi-cliffhanger ending as it left me wanting.

Still, solid movie and I loved that all the effects were practical rather than CG crap.

I actually think in terms of the CGI, The Lizard was done pretty horribly. It stands out to me whenever I go back and watch the movie. I feel they could have done a lot better.

Just finished Midnight Cowboy. Dated, but the performances are out of this world and it's one of the best movies about friendship ever.

                            Fury.

Pretty solid flick, really good performances by everyone and the action scenes were really intense. I can definitely see Logan Leerman being the next spiderman.

                              Another doc

                              "Generation Iron"
The modern-day response to "Pumping Iron". Overall it was fine, but felt like the film lacked direction that "Pumping Iron" had. "Generation", I feel, focused on too many guys that really didn't add anything to the film. Phil Heath and Kai Greene were the story. Had the movie really dove in with two feet into both of the athletes' lives, I think this would've been a home run.

Heck, Greene is a really talented artist and the film shows him painting and performing in the NYC streets, and yet, not a single question is asked by the filmmakers to Greene as to what art means to him, etc. Mind-boggling omission there.

I found Heath to be a guy that at least understood putting yourself out there to the media to try and gain more notoriety. Again, the film didn't really spend enough time telling his story.

While "Pumping Iron" may have staged some scenes/rivalries, it certainly came across the screen as real and all the bodybuilders that were featured in that film viewers felt a personal connection to by the time the credits rolled.

A good effort by the "Generation Iron" crew, but one that needed a bit more work.
