Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Just got back from X-Men: Apocalypse. Very fun, very good movie. I don't see any way to go 'bigger' than this story in terms of scale, but it didn't leave the characters behind either. I think Days of Future Past: Rogue Cut is the finest of this trilogy, but this is still very good.

Funny, as long as it was (over 140 min), I still feel it would benefit from an extended cut. DOFP was definitely made better for me with the Rogue Cut, and I think Apocalypse could do with some footage and more breathing room as well on BluRay. I'd like to see more character beats.

        Warcraft

Didn't like it. The only thing I liked was the main Orc. I didn't care for any of the characters and some things just didn't make sense.

          The Kingsmen: The Secret Service.
Loved this movie, I watched it over the weekend.
It has a very James Bond feel to it.
Again I thought it was great and very entertaining.
          Lots of cool action/fighting scenes.

One of my favorite movies of the last 5 years and I CAN'T WAIT for the sequel. Under-rated movie IMO.

I totally agree, I really couldn't believe how good it was.
I am not a huge Samuel Jackson fan but he was great in this movie.

Yeah Kingsman was an awesome movie. I wouldn't have felt bad paying to see it in theaters, but at $1.50 from Redbox it was a steal. I've watched it a couple more times on TV too. Still kicks ***.

Yeah Zootopia was Pixar level. Funniest animated film in awhile.

The Martian. We loved it. Much better than I expected. I just expected to see a Castaway rehash in space but it was a bit fresher than that.

TMNT: OotS I liked it a lot. Thought it was much better than the 1st one. Loved the introduction of the new characters...brought back plenty of nostalgia.

I watched a couple exploitation/B flicks last night:

Vigilante (1983): A pretty violent for its time flick where Robert Forster gets revenge on a group of guys for raping his wife and killing his kid. Also included is his friend Fred "The Hammer" Williamson whose the head of a vigilante group that takes down the operation of a drug/prostitution kingpin and helps Forster out. Not a bad waste of time though the story is pretty much strung along by the violent acts.

Trancers (1984): Pretty good cheaply done sci-fi flick starring Tom Thommerson. The movie is probably best known for being Helen Hunt's movie debut. The acting is pretty poor but the story and some of the effects are simple and good enough that you can look past it.

Planet of the Apes(the 2011 one with James Franco).

Kinda sad in it at times. Mostly just the Caesar transformation. Going from a smart baby Ape, through life as Francos characters friend(basically like his kid), basically good/innocent growing up, then ending up in that cruelty place, turning "evil" and becoming the leader of the Apes.

Sure, I root for the Apes over all the humans in that movie(and basically all animals in those situations where humans deserve what they get, especially in cruel situations) but still...

I watched the Conjuring Friday night. It was good. The acting pleasantly surprised me. I did think the ending was a little cheesy. I'm probably going to the the Conjuring 2 in theaters on Friday with a friend.
