However, there can be elements of the person that reminds(ed) you of one of your parents or another close family member/friend. My dad was always trying to be the comedian and sometimes came up with some gems. I guess that's why some of the older comedians do it for me. I don't cry myself to sleep over their loss, but it is reflective.

Re: Celebrities Who's Death Affected You

The deaths of Korey Stringer, Harry Carey, and Ron Santo made me stop for a few moments. The Stringer death was especially sad because of how young he was and the how it happened.

I've never really had deaths shake me celebrity-wise. I just stop and reflect a bit on what I remembered the most about them. Harry Carey and Ron Santo reminded me of my grandfather who passes away back in the mid 2000's because we watched so many games together. It brought his memory back at the same time.

Re: Celebrities Who's Death Affected You

Gee, I guess it must be really pathetic on my part then to watch someone or something for years and years and grow attached to them like they're part of my family and becoming sad when they pass away, right?

I don't get people who feel nothing. What the hell are you people watching/listening to these people for and how do you stay so detached? How are you entertained by someone year in, year out yet feel nothing for them if they passed away? hat's.....really bizarre.

It's not even a celebrity worship thing. And my reaction of feeling sad doesn't happen for everyone. As I said earlier in this thread, Skip Caray is one of the voices of my childhood. I still tear up and get chills when I hear his old calls. Why? Because he and the moments he called mean something to me personally.

I remember back in the 80's 2 mets players were in a boating accident, 1 died, the survivor was bob ojeda. I was a young kid but I remember feeling messed up about it, and the randomness of the event I think contributed to catching my attention.

I was shook up pretty darned good as a 14 year old Beatles fan when John Lennon was murdered in 1980. Still a crying shame. Hated to see George Harrison go as well. Paul McCartney has been my music idol for over 30 years. Losing him is really gonna hit me hard, unless he is in bad shape for a long time and suffering.

Some people that we have lost made me shake my head and say, "Damn, man..." People like Daryl Kile and Steve Irwin, who were in the prime of their lives and had wonderful families. Recently, Roger Ebert's death really bummed me out, but Lord knows he suffered for a long time.

Just the way some people are wired and what they've had to experience/go through.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that there hasn't been a death of a celebrity/public figure that has effected me.

My grandma died out of the blue and I was extremely close to her. It sucks that she's gone, but it didn't really affect me in anyway. She hadn't been to the doctor since before I was born (she was in a car crash some time earlier in 87, that was the last time) and she made it to the 2000s. Massive stroke out of nowhere.

The only death that truly has effected me was one of my best friends from school. He went out to a bar one night and was walking back to his apartment. This is the news article from it.

That one hit home. Here he is being smart by not driving and walking home and they find him in the morning. He could have made the worst decision of his life that night (drunk driving) and have possibly made it home. Just a freak accident out of nowhere. I guess I was afflicted more with a sort of survivor's guilt than anything, even if I wasn't in the same state. I was at a Packer game at FedEx Field that day, and none of my family or friends would talk to me until I got back from the game because they wanted me to have a good time there.

I don't fear (nor welcome in any way) death though - it's more a curiosity to me. I guess I found solace in some sort knowing that the people close to me that do go were truly happy with their life and had no fear of it either.

I do remember hearing about that particular death. Was it about over a year ago?

Belushi affected me somewhat. How could someone so young, but you could go back to Janis Joplin, Hendrix and Morrison and say the same thing.

I think celebrity deaths aren't neccesarilly about the death, if you like a celebrity or sports figure, its about the loss that you won't be able to enjoy any more performances by the person. Yes Chris Benoit's situation was sad. But its more about the loss that we won't see him perform anymore. At least to me. It's the same feeling when someone retires.

They were actually all Indians. Ojeda came over in a trade and Tim Crews and Steve Olin died. Olin was a rising star who was set to be the Indians closer that year.

Pretty shocking when Thurman Munson died. My cousin and his wife met me at the Atlanta airport, and he gave me the news.

He was in that boat accident (which killed pitchers Steve Olin and Tim Crews) while with the Indians, 1993.

I won't forget that, as a Tribe fan.

*edit* I see PVarck already stated this.

Ya, basically that. Same with when a TV show has series finale, knowing you won't ever see new episodes of that show again, and won't ever see that group of actors/actresses working together again(after getting used to seeing the show with those people for like 8 or so months each year for several years)

Even when the person who dies is someone you haven't seen on TV in years, it's still sad to know that it's now impossible to ever see them doing new stuff on tv or anywhere again.
