Re: Celebrities Who's Death Affected You
Only two celebrity deaths have affected me greatly.
- Sammy Davis Jr. (I know i was a weird kid) I literally cried myself to sleep!
- Steve McNair, as I said in the thread I don't know exactly why it's affecting me as I wasn't a Titans fan but I really loved the way he played the game. I think it has to do with how much of a good guy he seemed to be and that I actually remember seeing this guy playing a lot and witnessing what he did on the field. I didn't cry or anything but I was totally bummed out all day yesterday.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Celebrities Who's Death Affected You
Dale Earnhardt was really the only one for me, because me (along with the rest of my family) were HUGE NASCAR fans at the time. As a Jeff Gordon fan Dale was never high on my list, but I remember basically everything as far as the race and the aftermath. I remember watching the accident live and thinking, like many others, that it wasn't major and he'd be fine, and I remember the shock I felt when I looked on NASCAR.com and it said he was killed. Then I remember going over to a friend's house and seeing his mom (also not an Earnhardt fan) upset. Crazy day.Comment

Major bump...
Andy Griffith passing really bothered me. Grew up watching his show and a genuine good guy. Reminds me of a simpler time in life.
George Carlin is another. Really shocked that more people didn't know about him. Really changed the way I viewed the world.
Leslie Nielson. He was funny. Airplane was one of my favorite movies.

Natalie Wood and John Lennon who died a year apart and were almost the same age.
Their deaths were shocking because they were young (43, 40) but established stars. Wood particularly seemed to have a perfect life as a seasoned beauty, and devoted mother and wife.Comment

Pat Summerall's death kind of shook me up. He was an absolute inspiration for me in deciding what I wanted to do for a living and he was always a guy I wanted to emulate.MLB: Minnesota Twins

Re: Celebrities Who's Death Affected You
Biggest one for me was Chris Benoit. At first not so much what actually happened regarding the 3 or so days before he died(since I didn't know what happened at the time), but just him dying in general really sucked. He was one of my fave wrestlers since I first started watching wrestling, being Canadian was another bias as to why I liked him too. Of course, seeing him on TV 1-2 days every single week, 52 weeks a year, for several years, it was shocking to hear that news.
I remember I had a baseball game later on that day and lets just say....worst game I've ever played in my life that day. Game happened like 2hrs after I found out that he died, so really sucked playing a game with that being all I could think about.
It didn't affect me much at all, but a celebrity death I know I hated to hear about, was Wade Belak. I actually met him during Leafs practice(not sure if I got his autograph or not) and after practice, while most players just got in their cars and headed to ACC or something, Belak stayed back and played tag with someone(I think they were a "special" family member of one of the Leafs player. And it was actual tag, like how little kids played it), me and my friends were watching the game(we were the only ones around the area at that time, since it was like 1pm on a weekday), and helped Belak win lol.Last edited by Majingir; 05-05-2013, 10:37 PM.Comment

Re: Celebrities Who's Death Affected You
Yeah Chris Benoit was huge for me as at the time I was 13 or 14 and he was probably my favorite wrestler. At the time I was up visiting my real dad so my mom broke the news to me over the phone, etc. Then the worst probably in retrospect was I was already depressed over his death, but when news of all the craziness he was involved in broke I was by myself as I was traveling from airport to airport so I was so seeing it all over the news and just couldn't really comprehend the situation at all until I got home.

Ayrton Senna way back 1994. Who still has the largest funeral ever on record btw. Aaliyah's death and princess Di's death shocked me also, but Ayrton was the only celebrity I've mourned for. Probably because I was really young back then.Comment
