And now I take it back."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Heroes Season 4
I'm trying to think of all the characters I still like versus the ones that I find annoying or no longer relevant. One list is longer than the other.
Characters I still Like
Peter - I've always liked him and last week's episode was good because of him. I don't know why they misused him so badly last year.
Sylar - Was a phenomenal character in season one. They have managed to misuse and neuter him the last couple years. His role has been small and they need to make him really dangerous again.
Parkman - I know some guys don't like him but I've always found him interesting although I don't know why he would want to stop using his powers. Some of his story lines have been the best imo.
Mediocre
HRG - can't believe I'm saying this but they turned this guy into an uber-wuss this year. It's as though he doesn't serve a purpose. He needs to get back to a cold hearted mercenary real quick.
Nathan - has a bit of a dark side that I like. Not such a cookie cutter character but killing him off last year and converting Sylar into him made little sense to me. Didn't understand him being behind the rounding up of mutants either. Not sure what his future is. Looks about as promising as the show's and is awful close to Useless status. Could have been a much better character.
Annoying/Useless
Hiro/Ando - I used to like Hiro in season one. But this never ending desire to be a comic book hero is as refreshing as seeing the Energizer bunny. Enough already! And the time travel to change the future allows any lousy plot hole to be re-written and ruins things.
Claire - Cute girl but is pointless. Saving her life was great for season one but she is just annoying now. The whole crazy roomate thing is lousy TV.
Mrs. Petrelli - How many secrets can one person hold? Too many for this series. Just kill off the old bag already.
Mohinder - perfectly usefull in season one. Pointless beyond.
Tracy - nice to look at but she's never really been important in this show and that goes back to season one (as Nicki and her boring son).
This may be my last post on Heroes. I really can't say right now if I'll watch next Monday. Too many characters have outlived their usefulness and the ratings are indicating that. Last season's premiere drew 10 million and dropped to less than 6 million by year's end. This year's premiere drew 6.1 million and dropped to 5.8 last week and now 5.4 million this week. Who knows where it will go from here but the ratings have dropped consistently since the first excellent season. I think this will be the final year.
This show should have remained flexible. As characters outlive their usefullness, kill them off and bring in newer, more interesting ones. The show has really struggled trying to find a way to keep all of the original characters relevant when it didn't have to.Last edited by rudyjuly2; 10-06-2009, 12:21 PM.Comment

Re: Heroes Season 4
After getting a really good episode last week they give us one of the worst episodes of Heroes I've ever seen. Nothing but filler and crap. Absolutely nothing to advance the story other than the last 30 seconds. They turned HRG into a wuss and somehow found a way to make him uninteresting. Hiro is just a waste of space. Honestly, if you never watched this episode you would miss absolutely nothing other than the last 30 seconds. My desire to watch this show is at an all time low after tonight.Comment

Re: Heroes Season 4
After the amazing episode of last week they totally drop the ball this week. What a boring, non-eventful episode. Hiro needs to die already. Tracy is worthless as all hell and Noah better become a bad *** quick.
And maybe it's just me, but I await for Noah and Claire to start making out in some of their scenes. The way that they look at each other sometimes is pretty creepy.Michigan WolverinesChicago White SoxComment

Re: Heroes Season 4
I haven't yet watched the episode from last night but so far this season has been mediocre. I am so sick of the Claire character and every scene with her in it now just destroys any tempo an episode may have going.
Heroes is a classic example of how not to do a show- they blew their load in season 1 and since then have no clue wtf they want to do with it.
If the storylines of the last couple seasons (and this) haven't been mediocre enough, they have no concept of pacing. They'll have the majority of a season be trivial filler then when you get to the arc/climax it lasts for 1 or 2 episodes out of 20+.
They also have way too many characters with most of them useless and annoying and those that are actually interesting and enjoyable they either kill off or make worse with lame stories....take hiro as an example. Badass season 1 and he's been nothing but a joke since then. Sylar is the only character who hasn't lost anything to me although Peter isn't too far off.
I am giving this show 2 more episodes although if people thought last week was great (I thought it was mediocre) and they say last night's was lousy then I most certainty will find it horrible.
Sad you can go from season 1 to this. Just shows what happens when you don't truly plan out a series and try and wing it. I wonder if they thought it wouldn't last for more than the 1 season so that is why they blew their wad so much in it.Comment

Re: Heroes Season 4
IIRC, Kring wanted to start over each season with new characters and new storylines. After S1's success, the suits at NBC made him keep the same characters because they believed the audience identifies with and emotionally commits to characters, not just the concept of people with powers. So Kring basically winged it from there and then when ratings plummeted and people became unhappy, he bitched about everyone from the viewers, to the internet, to NBC execs, etc.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Heroes Season 4
It was a good episode - but that means next week we get Tracy which is ****ing terrible. Hiro is now with Peter, however, so that will make Hiro less painful.Michigan WolverinesChicago White SoxComment

Re: Heroes Season 4
With nothing on TV last night the wife and I gave Heroes another chance. We still had the previous episode on PVR and ended up watching both episodes. They were both interesting and we enjoyed them although I skipped through all the scenes with Claire. Her role has ceased to be interesting or relevant in any way.Comment

Re: Heroes Season 4
Good episode last night. They are letting things develop - which they very much got away from in season 2 and 3.
Really there has been only one bad episode this season and it was the Tracy and Hiro centric one.Michigan WolverinesChicago White SoxComment
