Re: Transformers 3
Major spoilers ahead...
Someone got a hold of the TF3 toys and well Megatron is different once again:
Spoiler
Here's his new alt mode:
Spoiler
Normally i'd be a bit annoyed about the latter but it's intriguing if only because of theSpoilerMegatron/Optimus Prime brother connection they made in the first film. Yeah it kinda sucks that Bay seems to be taking it literally but oh well....Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Transformers 3
I actually like that a lot better, I won't lie. Yeah it's drifting away from the source material, but I think at this point we need to completely forget about the source material and realize this is Bay's Transformers world. If he lives up to his comments about the 3rd movie, I'm in.Comment

Re: Transformers 3
More or less, but you know how people like to hold onto nostalgia.
People calling these movies "cheesy" are my favorite. It's a frickin' movie about alien robots that transform into vehicles, or spaceships, or whatever...based on a line of toys and an incredible cheesy TV show.Comment

Re: Transformers 3
Kinda the other way around but how can you represent one of the biggest characters so wrong?
Its not about nostalgia its about doing it right... Let Captain America come out and he looks like Captain Marvel... Its like what the heckComment

Re: Transformers 3
Actually, I just checked the wiki article for Transformers:
The Transformers began with the 1980s Japanese toy lines Microman and Diaclone. The former utilized varying humanoid-type figures while the latter presented robots able to transform into everyday vehicles, electronic items or weapons. Hasbro, fresh from the success of the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline, which utilized the Microman technology to great success, bought the Diaclone toys, and partnered with Takara. Jim Shooter and Dennis O'Neil were hired by Hasbro to create the backstory, the latter of whom christened Optimus Prime.Rose City 'Til I Die

Re: Transformers 3
But it's HIS movie, his material, his version of the story.
He can do whatever he wants because it's his Transformers world. It's not the same exact thing as the cartoon because it isn't the cartoon. There is no 'right or wrong' when it comes to an interpretation of the source material. He took the characters names, and the basic background story, and turned it into his version, his vision, his movies. If you don't like it, don't agree with it, that's fine - but you can't say it's wrong because there is no right or wrong when you're adapting an 80s cartoon into a movie today. He could've created entirely new characters, and as long as they were alien robots that transformed...they were transformers.
And anyway...Megatron turning into a gun in the cartoon was incredibly stupid and would not have translated well to movies these days. In my opinion, of course.
SpoilerI like the fact that he's turning Megatron into a complete foil for Prime. There's no disadvantage now between one being a ****ing space ship while the other is a semi. Now they're on even playing field and they really seem like the epitome of the Good Vs Evil characters, they're similar in a lot of respects - they're the leaders of their respective groups, the most powerful of their sides, and now they seemingly will transform into similar things. I like that, but I also didn't watch the show as it aired and have only seen re-runs and the like, so I have absolutely no connection to the source material. Hence the nostalgia comment.Last edited by Beantown; 12-24-2010, 10:37 PM.Comment

I happen to disagree but thats me. He could've called them the gobots for all I care. But it's HIS movie, his material, his version of the story.

I happen to think it blows that the freaking leader of the decepticons went from a gun to a cannon and ends up in a CGI movie as a plane and a car.
Just because its his rendition doesnt mean I have to think its the greatest representation.Comment
