 Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

Picked up the Galaxy S7 Edge a couple of weeks ago and I think I'm in love.

Coming from a Galaxy S6, which I was kind of mediocre on, the battery and screen are both really nice. I haven't used the camera too much yet, but it seems great so far. Fast as **** if nothing else...

I was a little hesitant on the size, but with the screen curve the phone is narrow enough to where I barely notice a difference with it in my pocket.

Very happy with it so far.

Seriously I've only had the phone a month and a half but, I have the "Shutapp" which shuts everything running down with one button... I always hit that when I sit the phone down.

 Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

Do many of you use the Google Maps Navigation system or a stand alone GPS? If you've used both how good is the Goggle Maps app compared to a stand alone one? Was thinking of buying a GPS cause I can't use the phone while using GPS and I also use my phone for music while Im in my car.

Saw a Garmin 5" 2579 on sale on Amazon for 143$ regular price 199 or I could get a 7" 2979 for 229$ both have voice commands and Blue tooth. If I got one would probably get the 5" one...thoughts?-= Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.=- Edward MurphyComment

I use Waze, better than Google, has social alerts for cops, wrecks, traffic, etc. Google maps displays some data from Waze as Google now owns them.

I have Android auto in my car, which for some reason still doesn't have Waze, so I found a workaround to display Waze on my phone screen and the rest on the Android auto screen.

As long as you aren't in areas where you don't have a signal, I would always use the phone as the GPS. You could even download maps for offline or poor signal areas. I do that when going hiking and then just use the phone as a GPS. I have another app though because it's easier to mark trails, waypoints, etc than in Google.

 Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

You can do that. As long as your phone doesn't shut off data while on a call, you can use GPS at the same time. Waze downloads enough so even if it does turn off data, you just won't get updates. Just put the phone on Bluetooth or speaker and you can then open the GPS app back up or it will run in the background still giving directions.

 Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

Yup, I use Waze as well and it's awesome. Knowing where traffic incidents are as well is a nice addition.

As for Android, I think I'm finally full in on the pure goodness: Nexus 6P phone for the main driver, Pixel C (with folio case) for the more meaty tasks, and the Nexus 7 (2013) for play. Very happy with Android in this sense where I can now get the latest updates iOS style, and not have to wait for any carrier nonsense.

 Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

Waze is the best. It updates traffic scenario faster, and will give you a quicker alternative route. Google Maps pulls in data from Waze, but it's just not as good for that. Waze will also alert you of road hazards and police in the area. It's all user reported. Never had an issue playing music or talking on the phone while also using the GPS. It will just use a lot of battery. I pretty much run it every time I drive to help avoid accidents. It will usually give you 3 routes to choose from right when you start it up.Last edited by SuperBowlNachos; 05-02-2016, 09:30 AM.Comment
