Finally rooted my EVO 4G. Flashed Myn's Warm 2.2. All I can say is.......damn, son....

Wish I did this a long time ago.

Be careful what you do on your phone now, because a friend of mine had his credit card info stolen once he rooted his evo.

I'm one who came from an iPhone last year. After having this phone for a while, does anyone feel that this phone is very glitchy? ie calls wrong contacts and select wrong people when trying to send a text? There's many more things and I'm just wondering if any of you guys feel the same?

A lot of android users that say this typically have the manufacturer's added GUI enabled. See if you can turn it off and if that helps.

I'm still relatively new to the android community, only had my G2 for about a month. Whats the benefit to rooting? Like once I root my phone, what should I do? I know that it basically gives me permission to do anything to my phone, but what should I use those permissions for? Any apps I should get or cool tricks I can do? Will it make my phone faster? The battery last longer? Thiking about rooting mine this weekend if so.

Seriously?? Great logical thinking. After doing some research I see it is a problem many people are having with their evos. I guess the HTC forums that have many people complaining about the same problem is that all of them have glitchy fingers not the phone or software its self. Gotha...

Yeah, but the problem is that after the last Sprint update you can't do it anymore unless I root the phone. I don't know if I should root the phone because of security reasons... I've heard stories. Thanks for the info..

there's no security issues with rooting. your friend getting his cc number stolen while rooting is so ridiculously impossible. the only risk you run is possibly bricking your phone if you don't follow directions, which is basically "double click this icon" nowadays.

What are the benefits of rooting besides free hotspot? Do you think it's worth it?

If you get the Widgetlocker app you can put whatever you want on the lockscreen. This is what mine looks like atm:

what interface do you have on ur phone, did you get it like that cause its rooted.

The battery (Battstatt) and clock (Typoclock) widgets are apps available on the market. The music widget is Music Mod, which is also available on the market, but the .apk was modified to change the appearance (semi-transparent bg). The unlocker is Widgetlocker, but again used a modified apk to change the appearance. I am rooted, though I don't remember if that was necessary in order to install the custom .apks. I'll come back to this post hopefully with the links to point you in the right direction.

You can install custom roms that people have gone through and modified to make it look and run much smoother than stock. You can install custom kernels that also improve performance greatly. you can do free hotspot as you pointed out. really it's all about control. rooting, and android in general, makes so many things possibly with your phone and you can really make it YOUR phone.
