    VERIZON EVO ON THE WAY!

Remember that Verizon Wireless roadmap we leaked? Well, it’s all coming together pretty nicely. We have just got our hands on images of one of the upcoming HTC devices we wrote about. Our source describes the phone as being an EVO in a larger and more polished Nexus One body; brushed aluminum, very upper end of the market, you get the picture. “It makes the Droid 2 look like a kids toy,” our source told us. No word on if it is a global device, although… we’re betting it is. From what we can see the device has an 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, kickstand, 4.3-inch screen, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and, wait for it… a front facing camera.
We don’t have a release date yet (or a name), but we’re already counting down the days until we can get one of these in our offices.
    Thanks, Anonymous!

      Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

Loving my EVO 4G so far, it has surpassed all my expectations. I got it on Monday and I've spent probably 12-15 hours messing around with it, testing apps, rearranging my screens, etc. The customization is almost a bit overwhelming.

I'm not a huge fan of the widgets, the only one I have is the Beautiful Widgets home/weather/clock (only app I paid for) and Agenda widget.

      My main apps:

      - Advanced Task Killer
      - Agenda Widget
      - Alarm Clock Plus with White Noizz (so cool)
      - Amazon
      - Astro
      - BOA
      - Barcode Scanner
      - Bubble (level)
      - Calorie Counter
      - Chrome to Phone (very cool)
      - Documents to Go
      - Dolphin browser
      - Dropbox
      - eBay
      - Evernote
      - Facebook
      - FxCamera (very cool)
      - Google Sky (amazing)
      - Home Switcher
      - IMDB
      - Mini Info
      - Shazam
      - Speed Test
      - Twitter

I'm also a neat freak so I keep things looking clean, it's funny to see how many people's set up is pure chaos. To each their own though!

Yeah something tells me that Verizon Evo probably won't come out until the 2nd half of next year, when Verizon has a lot more cities on their 4G network.

There's no way Verizon would wait almost a year to release a phone. By that time, it will be outdated. It will definitely be out in the next few months.

            Or release a superior version.

It won't be outdated, just be a faster version. Considering they have the Droid X, there is no need for Verizon to rush out with another jumbo screen phone.

About your task killer, there is much debate on the many android sites. Most show that task killers do more harm than good.

Also, you have to try LaunchPro. It's much faster than Sense UI.

I do have LauncherPro, forgot to list it! I think that's the first thing I DL'd since so many people were discussing it.

What's the supposed harm of the task killers? I'll have to read up on that.

                    Re: Official Android Discussion Thread

Harm is a strong word, it's just unnecessary. The perceived advantages and why they are pointless:

Resource clearing. The idea is that all these background programs are hogging resources that slow the phone. The truth is that the way Android is designed, background programs are put into their lowest state which is typically completely idle, with the exception being programs that are designed to do something in the background (like access the network or playing music, etc). If a program comes up that needs resources, Android is designed to clear background programs to clear up resources as needed. The net effect of this is a task killer can degrade performance when using programs designed to sit idle in the background without giving any real performance boost.

Battery savings. Any battery savings you may find with a task killer is from killing tasks that access networks. You are better off turning off programs that access data, or even better getting a program like Juice Defender to turn off data completely when not needed.

So it's not necessarily that it's going to do harm so much as they can be overly aggressive and any benefits can be gained other, better, ways to get rid of the detrimental effects that a task killer can cause.

After reading these root instructions a couple times and watching the video a few times, I'm ready to root my Evo.
The rooting method for the EVO 4G is close to the same as the Droid 2, just recently created by Sebastian Krahmer at http://c-skills.blogspot.com/, but with a little variation. Here is the step-by-step I just did on my brother's (dwizzy130) EVO...

I just ordered a Droid X from VZW. Called them because my BB Tour was acting up, they told me I had an upgrad available.

Now the part that stinks is waiting for it to get here. Supposed to ship on or before Sept. 17th....
