Samsung Galaxy Nexus probably won't be released in the U.S. until after Black Friday; probably in December
A leaked document containing Verizon’s advertising plans reveals the carrier does not plan to focus its campaign on the Nexus until after the Black Friday weekend. The schedule, leaked by website Droid-Life, shows Verizon will instead market the Motorola Droid Razr and HTC Rezound throughout most of November.
Verizon is the only confirmed carrier of the Galaxy Nexus in the U.S., but has stayed mum on a release date. Rumors circulated the device would launch on the network as soon as November 10, but the company’s advertising plan points to a release much later in the month.
The timeline laid out in Verizon’s ad campaign offers no solid date on the Nexus’ availability. The carrier may begin its promotions before the device goes up for sale, so the launch of the Nexus could come as late as December. Without a U.S. release date announced, the U.K. may be the first to get the Nexus since Samsung confirmed the device was set to launch in several European countries on November 17.
The Nexus is likely to be a top-selling smartphone, but it faces fierce competition during the holiday season. Motorola’s Razr phone, the iPhone 4S and the HTC Rezound will all be off to a running start at Verizon by the time the Nexus hits the network.
