If you aren't averse to rooting your phone, the "Wifi Tether" app is free on the Google Shop.

I have jellybean (CM 10 Euroskank ROM) on my Galaxy Nexus and I will swear by that app for tethering. I have been using it for years now.

                    Eclipse..

All black theme.. saves a ton on battery, the kernel is pretty good too

What are the upsides to rooting a phone?

                        Downsides?

                        Can all phones be rooted?

Upsides: remove bloatware, install apps that require it (like wifi tether), custom roms, custom kernels for things like longer battery life

                          Downsides:
                          Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

I've had my Bionic since November and love it but wonder what I'm missing out on. Just started reading about rooting and not sure if I know enough to give it a try or if I'd get enough out of it

The only danger is that depending on the phone you might be hard brick it, and mess up the OS
