Well, I put the whole idea on the back burner for a bit because my S5 quit acting up. However, it started acting up again so I think I'm going to do something soon.

My thought had been to go with the AT&T Next Year plan so I can upgrade in a year (I'm assuming the S8 will be out within that time frame) and to get an S7 Edge.

But, I've started to get interested in the Pixel XL because of the comments in here and a few things I've read elsewhere. If anyone can weigh in on one versus the other (I'm a Samsung guy so I'll need more than a little convincing to abandon them) I would appreciate it.
I had the S7 edge for about a week a couple weeks ago. I really liked it. But there are a few things I didn't like that the Pixel has. I'm not a huge fan of Samsung's TouchWiz. It's not as bad as it was, but I prefer stock Android, or as close to it as possible, which is what the Pixel is. Also Nougat was a factor for me. I really like it and no telling when the S7 will get it. And that brings me to the latest updates hitting the Pixel right away.

Couple other things; Screen is just as good on the Pixel. Camera might be even better. And I really like the Google ecosystem. I have everything through Google. And I really like using voice commands and the Pixel's Google assistant is really good so far and will only get better. And I know this probably sounds weird, but one of my favorite things about the Pixel is I can use the "OK Google" command when the screen is off. I keep my phone on a car mount and like to sometimes text people through voice. I had to still unlock the S7 manually to do that. And I know a lot of people don't like the look of the Pixel, but I find it to be very sleek. Especially the black version.

I would best describe it as a supped up Nexus 6P. Only thing I don't like is the lack of water proofing. But it is IP53 certified which means its splash and rain resistant. That's really all I need. Oh, and the battery life is amazing and it charges faster than any phone I've ever used.

I've owned 3 Nexus phones over the last few years and the S7 Edge is the phone I'm rocking now. As much as I wanted to jump all over the Pixel XL, the more I dug into it, I just did not see how it was a better phone than the Edge. I say this as a huge Stock Android fan and my favourite device of all time being the Nexus 6P.

I say all this, as well, annoyed AF at the slow updates from Samsung and completely enamoured with the idea of Google Assistant. But I can't justify spending what they're asking for on the Pixel when so many checkboxes are left blank. Aside from the software, I just don't see how it's a better device than the S7 Edge.

The cameras are comparable, one doing one thing better than the other and vice versa, the screen is better on the S7 Edge especially in daylight, the design of the S7 Edge is more pleasing aesthetically and it's also IP68 water resistant. It'll probably be ages before the S7 Edge gets Android Nougat but TouchWiz already has alot of features that Nougat just brought out.

Long story short, if you go with either phone you'll be happy. They both have their pros and cons. Even though I'm a big Nexus fan, one of the downsides of constant updates is almost every one of them caused massive battery drain the first few days until Google cleaned up whatever was causing the issue. They're both great but you being a Samsung fan, I think you'd be happier with the S7 Edge or wait for the S8 if your S5 can hold out that long.

Software question. I never noticed this before I picked up the Pixel. Is there a way to turn off the automatic lock after 4 hours of inactivity feature?. I have both trusted voice and trusted location setup, but the only way I can start using the OK Google feature in the mornings is to physically pick up the phone and use my pattern to unlock it since I have obviously been asleep for at least 4 hours.

A review of the Pixel by Android Police. For Steelerfan specifically, right near the end it hints that it's not a better phone than the Edge.

If I had to pick ONE phone to get from a carrier right now, I'd be getting the LG V20. Buying outright, I still think the OnePlus 3 or the ZTE Axon 7 is a better idea. But both the S7 Edge and Pixel are amazing devices. Reality is there's alot of great phones out there right now and you almost can't go wrong getting any flagship device.

Just installed PS Vue on my Shield TV. Going to try to use the 7 day trial to see if it's worth ditching Dish for, and see how it will work with our other Chromecast enabled TV upstairs.

Any of you use PS Vue?

I did the trial and it was great as far as the quality.

I decided to not go forward with it because they don't have CBS or Root Sports. I was prepared to deal with no Root Sports (meaning I'd lose my Astros games) but I wasn't willing to lose the NFL and college football games on CBS.

When they, at least, get CBS I'll be all over it.

That's definitely regional because we have the locals sans the CW, probably due to their stupid app, but it actually works great to be honest.

I have a Nexus 6P that hasn't giving me any issues (battery life isn't as good as it was) that is a year old. But right now, I have a 32gb Pixel XL in my Best Buy cart ready for pick up. I don't need it, but I love having the newest tech and I am so close to pulling the trigger. I figured I could sell my 6P for about $300 on Swappa and just put it towards it. Apparently buying from Best Buy, they still work on AT&T like if I bought from Google. I am so torn, which maybe means I shouldn't do it? I dunno too much!

I just sold my Nexus 6P up here in Canada for $400 so $300 in the US is probably very likely. It's a great phone, I don't think you'll be unhappy with it.

Still prefer my 5X to my friend's Pixel, lol. I don't want to own a phone that expensive... too much to worry about because I know I'm gonna drop it.

Have the Samsung S7 Edge and for some reason Google has stopped reading any current text. It only reads a text I got 3 days ago, use it for when I'm driving. Any ideas?

Sold my 6P for $300 and grabbed a 32gb Pixel XL from Google Store. Such a great phone. Really enjoying it. Main complaint is the speaker. Not as good as the 6P and in a weird spot I keep covering up with my hand.
