I feel like the parts themselves are a lot better than Raimi's trilogy...okay, lets be serious, first two movies. Spiderman3 is pretty much unwatchable.

Anyway, I feel like the parts were better than the sum for this movie and with SM1 and 2 it was the opposite. Raimi did good with a not so great leading cast and a Spiderman that never really developed past putting on the suit and Parker's relationship issues. While ASM didn't really feature Spiderman as this was essentially all about Peter Parker, Garfield definitely gives Spiderman a personality rather than simply being Peter Parker with a basketball mask. Emma Stone/Gwen Stacy is just a notch above Dunst/Mary Jane. I never really liked MJ's fast track into show business and her and Peter's relationship was always very immature. Peter and Gwen were great and I loved how she was actually useful in this rather than being reduced to some action plot device in the third act.

Still, I feel like the storyline in Spiderman 1 and 2 were better and more fully realized. With the way the first half was paced, I thought the second half moved pretty quickly to the resolution and climax. Not to mention the inclusion of some truly eye-rolling, ripped from Golden Age comic books scenes in the end.

As for the credits scenes, I think they purposely did it open ended to hedge their bets on doing a sequel. My thoughts:

Really, Webb could just throw somebody in the next film and as long as its logical it would work. For now, I'm going to think its Connors talking to himself again. The voice sounded similar to the previous scene and the shot of the leg arm signaled to me that this was Connor's "other half." Of course, they could just change it in the sequel.

As for Gwen...

The whole promise thing at the end rubbed me the wrong way. With Ben's moral obligation/responsibility to do good and protect those close to you being a major theme in the movie and in Peter's motivation to take care of the Lizard I felt like Peter took a couple steps back with breaking the promise to Captain Stacy. Now it just makes it clear that Gwen will essentially be the refrigerator girlfriend of this series.

In regards to venom, I'd love them to just create him and not really go anywhere with it. Introduce Brock, have him burned by parker, have the symbiote attach with him and just show him. Don't make him the main villain in a movie.

Introducing Carnage when Venom hasn't even been done well would be a huuuuuge mistake IMHO.

Right, but one of the best effective ways to have Venom is eventually have him join Spider-man to fight a evil. Instead of having Venom join forces with Sandman.

Could go the Ultimate route and not have Cassidy as Carnage but a Parker clone.

They can't really leave out Harry with Oscorp (and Norman) being such an integral part of this incarnation. Plus like you said, Peter doesn't really have any friends. He's on better terms with Flash by the end of the movie but I'm not sure if that's going to last or what.

Also, I think they have to go the inevitable route with Gwen. She was so likeable that IMO it needs to happen because the emotion of that moment is just going to be further magnified. What I'm not sure of is if it should happen in the sequel or the third movie. Personally I feel like they should save it for the third considering they already killed off Uncle Ben and Captain Stacy, but that's just me.

I'm pretty sure it's set but I'll try to find the interview where they talk about it. Avi Arad wants to get the Venom movie done first, then put him in this new trilogy. Of course, that could all be smoke and mirrors and they'll put him in the next one.

At Comic-Con you said Spider-Man has enough stories on his own to keep him separate and you weren’t interested in combining him with The Avengers. Now that The Avengers movie has become such an unexpected phenomenon, is there a possible opportunity there?

Avi Arad: Everything is possible. If something like that happens, it’s great for Disney, it’s great for Sony, if the right story comes in. We are now working on Venom first. That’s our first out.

Matt Tolmach: Cousin to Spider-Man.

Avi Arad: So our thinking is in the right direction. Avengers to me was an expected success so I never looked at it as “Oh, because Avengers was successful.” Team ups can happen once you create the character, establish the CG, otherwise it’s not affordable.

No, way too early IMO. Flash was a Marine for a while before becoming the soldier version of Venom.

There's actually good fight with him against Anti-Venom in ASM.

I agree. Brock is extremely complicated and deep. He's changed a little in recent years as Anti-Venom though but still... his development would need to take in 2 movies before revealing him as Venom. As far as Venom getting his own movie, I don't see it. Especially how that happens without including the Spider which in turn makes it a Spider-man movie and not a Venom one.

As far as clones... too much confusion for the average fan. Sometimes it gets complicated in the comics when they bring back Parker clones and you're like what, who... oh yeah that guy.

Thanks... but for now I'll take the see it then believe approach. Venom-Spider-man is an arc that is more story and mind games driven than action driven... at least if it was to be done right.

It’s an Eddie Brock story. We want to be as close to the comics as possible. Especially in Eddie Brock’s story. But again, pseudo-sceince is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now. Spiderwebs have unique qualities that will be huge for communications, fibers, and so forth. So we have taken the approach that we want to make the huge amazing movie about Eddie.

Just hope they do it right. I've been dying to see an Erik Larson inspired Venom take on the big screen.

Great movie, at first I thought Garfield was a little awkward as spiderman but it progressed well throughout the movie.

I never saw the hype in Emma Stone, but her wearing those knee high boots in every scene changed my mind.

FX had it playing last night and I tried watching the first hour before True Blood came on, but hell I couldn't even do that. Just...

My friend explained it best when we finished ASM Saturday night. He said that Tobey's performance essentially consisted of him constantly being surprised at everything going on around especially the fact that he was Spiderman.

Plus, MJ is total bitch in SM3. "This isn't about you Peter." **** you bitch, he's just trying to help your complaining ***. Oh snap, girlfriend is having a meltdown - thank God for this handy police scanner. Laters.

I remember reading this as well. I still don't give him a pass. What he did with Tobs dancing and throwing his hips everywhere... it's something I would expect to see on CollegeHumor mocking the movie, not IN the actual movie.

Plus that damn emo cut.... ugh.

As much as people **** on that movie, James Franco was great and the fight scenes with him were fantastic.
