Yeah, this is well worth seeing even if its by yourself.

I took two of my kids to see ASM today and it exceeded my expectations. I felt like Andrew Garfield did a really good job of portraying Peter Parker. Toby McGuire wasn't bad in the role, but his version just felt way tooooo dorky. Emma Stone was an awesome Gwen Stacy and can't wait to see how things pan out with her character if they follow the comic lore. Sally Field wasn't a bad Aunt May, but I think that Rosemary Harris was better in the role.

If I can ask for one actor to return from the first trilogy, it would be William Dafoe as Norman/Green Goblin. It's not so much that he can play the role, but he looks like the damn Green Goblin.

The mid credits spoiler, the mystery man almost sounded like

but I would love if they did go with the Green Goblin again for the second film.

I am not too sure how the choice was to have The Lizard as the main villain, but I am glad that they did since it was the direction they were heading in with in the first trilogy.

In the end, I really enjoyed the ASM a lot. I still do like the first trilogy too, really the first two films with Spider-Man 2 being in my top 5 of greatest comic book films. Spider-Man 3 tried to do way too much imo that screwed up the original trilogy. It fell into the Batman Forever and Batman & Robin curse of having too many villains while also trying to add many more supporting characters from the universe. I hope this reboot of ASM doesn't fall into that trap.

If Sony is going to make a Venom movie, I wonder if Flash Thompson will be the route that they take for the new Venom?

He did a great job as Norman Osborn but if this movie is any indication, then I'd like to see what they could do with a new actor in that role. IMO the only actor that absolutely needs to be brought back from the Raimi films is the guy who played J. Jonah Jameson. There's no way anyone else could come close to how accurate he was as that character.

I still keep thinking to myself what they're going to do with a sequel. There's just so many ways they can go. I think they're going to save the Green Goblin (as well as Gwen Stacy's "moment") for the third film and instead introduce characters like Norman Osborn and maybe even Mary Jane in the sequel. Also, with the emphasis on Oscorp, they're probably going to need to introduce Harry Osborn as well.

The one thing I can't get a good idea on is who the villain would be for the next movie. I'd like to see them go with another new villain that wasn't involved in the previous trilogy. Someone like Electro, Kraven, Vulture, Scorpion, etc. More so one of the first two than the latter two though.

Saw it today. Definitely like this Spider-man/Peter Parker better than the last movies. Only saw the first and third Spider-man movies before (I guess I skipped the best one from what I'm reading here) but I liked this one better.

I hated that he spend so much time in the suit without the mask. All the major characters knew that Peter Parker was Spider-man.

To be fair, outside of Daredevil, Peter is one of the few super heroes who were publicly found to be a superhero in the Marvel Universe. Outside of the obvious like Steve Rogers.

I don't know. It doesn't bother me. At least it had a purpose.

I could see them riding out that equation as a plot device for at least one more movie. It would certainly make introducing Scorpion a logical step.

Trying to watch Spiderman 3 is a punishment. Toby is just all kinds of awkward.

I think that Kraven could be a very neat villain if done right for a movie.....then have him think at at the end of the film think he has

I also wouldn't mind Kingpin, but I do not think that he would fit in well with the current story arc being centered on Oscorp.

I agree that the actor who played J. Jonah Jameson was spot on with the role.

This one never said that, although obviously both implied with the mask. But unlike the other trilogy, Spiderman, and those around him, aren't total morons who don't trust each other. Which is why I loved it when Peter told Gwen that he was Spiderman, unlike in the other trilogy, where Mary Jane's dumb *** kept over looking OBVIOUS clues to Peter being Spiderman, and Peter being all like "NO ONE MUST KNOW" CIA style secrecy.

Whatever. The unmasking thing doesn't matter to me much. I had absolutely no problem with it in this movie. It served purposes in this movie, unlike in Spiderman 3 where he just removes the damn thing for no reason other than to give TM's face more air time.

Exactly. That's one of my pet peeves with super hero movies. And it's one of the things I really like about Nolan's Batman series is that, for the most part, Bruce Wayne doesn't reveal his identity.

Back to Spider-Man, just a little thing that irked me a little. Really liked the movie as a whole though. Looking forward to seeing where they go from here.

When I walked out of the theater Tuesday evening after seeing this, I immediately thought to myself, this is the best Spiderman movie yet. Everything about it just felt right and I thought it put the original three films to shame in some regards.

And then FX run all three movies in succession the last couple days. Spiderman 2 still holds up pretty well. Tobey was good but compared to Garfield, Garfield was a better Peter Parker and Spiderman though.

The new movie definitely made it clear that this Spiderman is super agile and quick. Yet watching Spiderman 2, that Spiderman was nimble in the air and did use some nifty tricks to combat Dr.Oct

It's hard to compare, but after re-watching Spiderman 2, it still held up pretty well. I would compare The Amazing Spiderman to Spiderman 2. In the end that's a good thing because it means The Amazing Spiderman started off really well where it took the original two movies to truly shine.

So saw the movie and as one of the bigger Spider-man nerds on OS I loved it! A breath of fresh air to the Spidey universe that was much needed after that disastrous third one. It had some questionable parts... plus some corny ones but overall done well. Both Peter and Gwen were played really well. Props.

To me it's like they combined the Ultimate and Amazing Universe together with a twist of their own which worked fine and I liked it. They did a great job of of limiting Aunt May as in the last three movies she was far too overblown. Also good job not having Gwen being rescued. Another thing which was overplayed with MJ in the last 3 movies to the max!

Liked the interaction between Peter and Gwen. Exactly what I was hoping for. However, that line about the best promises being the ones that are broken did bring a expression because in a way (comic spoiler)

Unless of course they go a different route which would be fine as there a lot of hardcore fans that prefer Gwen over MJ anyway. At the end I thought she would end up hating Parker and Spider-man because of her father's death. Kind of glad that wasn't the case.

The build up they took with Peter transitioning was excellent. Changed some things around to make it interesting but at the same time they didn't waste a lot of time on it.

I was never a big fan of the Lizard but I was glad to see the movie Lizard is much more similar to that of the new Lizard in the Amazing comics compared to the old one.

Obviously a lot of questions remain which is good in anticipation of the next one. The end I don't think it's a split personality. I think that has to be Norman and I hope that is the route that they follow.

I do however hope they leave Harry out of this. If Harry isn't the Golbin then he is worthless and why he disappears for so long in comics as he does. Although the problem is Peter doesn't really have any friends in the movie so far.

As much as I love Venom, I think he should be passed for this series. He could easily be worked into the movie, especially since this resembles the Ultimate Universe but why? Venom is a badass, not a master mind villian. This is the problem with Venom unless you introduce Carnage later.

They can't really leave out Harry with Oscorp (and Norman) being such an integral part of this incarnation. Plus like you said, Peter doesn't really have any friends. He's on better terms with Flash by the end of the movie but I'm not sure if that's going to last or what.

Also, I think they have to go the inevitable route with Gwen. She was so likeable that IMO it needs to happen because the emotion of that moment is just going to be further magnified. What I'm not sure of is if it should happen in the sequel or the third movie. Personally I feel like they should save it for the third considering they already killed off Uncle Ben and Captain Stacy, but that's just me.

Even with him saying that, I wasn't totally sure it was Norman. If you look at the one scene when Peter is in Oscorp and he's going up the escalator, they show some kind of Norman hologram without a face. Seeing that and then somewhat seeing the guy in the shadows, it didn't really match up to me.

My first thought is Electro (hence the flash of lighting). If not him then Mysterio. It's also possible it isn't some major super villain. The video game tie-in did just use Alistair Smythe.

In regards to venom, I'd love them to just create him and not really go anywhere with it. Introduce Brock, have him burned by parker, have the symbiote attach with him and just show him. Don't make him the main villain in a movie.

Introducing Carnage when Venom hasn't even been done well would be a huuuuuge mistake IMHO.

There's going to be a Venom solo movie so he won't show up with Spider-Man until that comes out.
