Not to mention she looks nothing like a high-school student.

I think Emma Stone will be good. And I can't wait to see Garfield as Spidey. He is a great actor.

She'd make a good MJ if it was a continuation of the Maguire movies.

Emma Stone is Gwen Stacy, not Mary Jane.

I'm not a huge comic follower outside of movies... who exactly is Gwen Stacy?

Peter's other love interest... actually technically she was his first love, which is kind of inconsistent with Raimi's Spider-Man. I just didn't see Emma Stone playing MJ is all. I'd say Stacy is more fitting for her.

Yeah. Stacy is the main female in Peter's life in HS. MJ doesn't really come along until after, so glad they're actually going to portray that correctly.

She's a much better choice for Stacy. Good. Now please get MJ right this time.

She isn't exactly fat and we've seen a lot of "older" actresses play younger roles but this is neither here nor there and as such I will drop it.

Others have explained who Gwen Stacy is but let me also add that her death is what kicked off the Bronze Age of comics and the true maturation of the medium. If you're interested in seeing this try and find copies of Amazing Spider-Man #121-122. The story arc is truly a watershed moment in the history of comics and THE driving force of Spider-Man for a good 20-30 years.

The Gwen Stacy influence on Peter/Spidey isn't felt much anymore but for a long time it was what made Spidey tick.
