Bingo. I looked into the Kindle and Nook for this, and found out that there were hardly any publishers putting out ebooks (or even .pdf files).

My point exactly. If the textbook publishers aren't making e-versions of their textbooks, then that is an invalid point. And, as of right now, most textbook publishers aren't doing this. It's a great idea in theory, it just doesn't work that way.

You are going around in circles with your arguments. I never said the laptop was a viable music or email alternative. The ipod/itouch is. Your initial statement was that the iPad was perfect for mobile people and said that people want to carry less. My point is they arent carrying less with the ipad because they are still carrying all the devices they had before.

The only reason we're going in circles is because people refuse to understand that it will be a substitute for individuals, whether it be a PC or an iPod touch. Ultimately, it depends on what you use the device for.

Would it be realistic to say this will be THE device for the individual who carries around a DVD to watch on their laptop? No. Convergence in technology is obviously the purpose behind Apple's devices. You've proven time and time again you need to have anything and everything at your disposal at all times, considering you're carrying an iPod touch, iPhone and now, from your comments, a laptop. If you're expecting it to be the replacement of all those devices in EVERY single way, be it capacity, size, features, etc, then this isn't the device FOR you. For many, it apparently will be. Seems like it already is.

And personally, no I wouldn't think this was easier than my laptop, no. It's the same type of screen. If it was an e-ink screen, then yes it would be easier on the eyes, but it's not.

And you don't think publishers will move towards ebook versions with a device such as this leading the way?

Should we turn back the clock a few years back where people were saying the App Store wouldn't take off?

Fart apps and games with-standing, there's plenty of potential for a device like this. PLENTY. And that ultimately falls to your needs, no?

I do see a solid market for those kids who are growing up and would rather have something like this instead of buying books for their classes. If this was out when I was in college, I'd scoop it up in order to reduce my load some. I will say that the textbook thought is the biggest idea yet. In all honesty, APPLE has the biggest chance of pushing textbooks into the digital. If they can bring about the right look, it could really take off in that field.

In business, I have to say it's hit or miss depending on which company you're apart of. The cheap applications for those solid products is a nice deal though. It would be even sweeter if they could get some of the more used applications that are basically used in the majority of homes. I seriously can't see myself getting this anytime soon for myself but I can see my daughter sitting and reading that thing next to me in about a decade. That's how technology will go.

I really think that they should have put more into this product. A camera plus more space would seriously bring the appeal up so much greater. They could then give the option of uploading/downloading videos to the net in HD. Even being able to conference with other friends on it would have been a nice thing to show off. I really think that they could have sold it through at least that casual addition. Too pricey for what it doesn't do for me. It's a decent concept but I'll pass for now and continue saving up for my wife's MBP. Disappointed that there is not update to the iPhone, iPhone OS, or MBP in any aspect. Whole thing for this average innovation was a waste.......

Completely agree. An event solely for this seems... wasted.

I don't see how anybody in a business environment could actually make use of this. It won't run any business applications. You can't call anyone on it. You can get email though.

According to what? Most of the comments I'm reading on sites are very similar to those in this thread.

If it doesn't sell, publishers won't be making ebook versions. Simple as that.

The iPhone sold incredibly well (and therefore got more app developers on board) because it was incredibly innovative. It FULLY combined a phone with an MP3 player AND added some features that computers have (internet).

This is partially combining a few devices.

They can still have things that will be updated later on in the year right? They could essentially come out with update iPhones, iTouches, and MBPs right? If so, then I think they could have held on for 2 more months. The 60 day wait seems a bit too long.

On another note, I guess those Verizon users are seriously still waiting for Apple to jump ship. I guess there is still time for that also. I want to know what options are possible in regards to all of this stuff.......

I'm sure IBookStore will be on the IPhone, and IWork could also be available for the IPhone. What's the incentive to get an IPad if you already have an IPhone and a laptop?
