I love his reaction from 8-9 minutes when he talks about the end of episode 1... if you haven't read the books and watched the episode yet but plan to, don't read the spoiler

I haven't seen the episode yet, but I know it ends with Bran being pushed out the window. Now, I'm sure the show does the story justice, but with only an hour to tell it up to that point, I wonder a bit how strongly that emotional connection develops between the viewer and the characters.

Because I know for me, Bran had a chapter dedicated to him at the beginning of the first book (when he goes and watches his father execute the deserter of the Night Watch and then on their way home they find the wolves), and then right before he falls their was a lot of work put into describing his character, his motivations, love of climbing, etc to the reader. The book did an amazing job of building him up and developing that connection. He was honestly my favorite character almost right away, and then when he was pushed out the window, I literally had to put the book down and just stop reading for a few minutes. I was more shocked and upset than I think I'd ever been reading/watching any other story. Yet that was also the point where I was like, "holy ****, I am hooked!" I just needed a few minutes to catch my breath before I could stomach reading more lol.

I'm glad to see the viewers who haven't read the books yet (I hope you all will buy them lol) reacted much the same way.

And to those of you that complain about the nudity, I will say that you have to keep in mind the source material and the setting/mood/attitude the story potrays. Ignoring the fact that I disagree with people who think violence and swearing are ok but nudity is taboo, that isn't even the issue here imo...

This isn't a world with "morals" like ours. This is a place/time/land where children (12/13) getting married/having sex/etc is pretty standard. It is a cold hard place that isn't kind to kids and doesn't have the same views as we would to what is decent and indecent. Incest, "public nudity", children having sex, kids in war, etc, are all a part of life for some/all of the people in this world (some people are obviously more babaric than others). And it is essential imo to stay true to that world, to develop that mood, to create that atmosphere and character depth that is so very important to the story.

To steal a phrase from the Starks, "winter is coming", the world is cruel, and it's time to grow up and and be ready for it, because summer can't last forever... Winter is coming soon!

The 15 minute preview was in the first episode and it wasn't part of his chapter in the books. It was titled Prologue.

edit: Actually, the Prologue is everything that happens before the opening credits roll. After that, it's Bran's chapter.

I just got a $100 gift card for amazon a month ago, and I just picked the kindle for $114. This will be the first book I get on it, I honestly can't wait week to week to find out what happens.

You haven't missed anything. The prologue was the part that took place in the snow with the 3 members of the Nightswatch.

I love the acting in the series. They make all the scenes work with subtle nuances. I'm amazed how well they come across on screen.

Yeah, I've didn't read the books and really haven't watched any previews or behind the scenes shows either. I intentionality left myself "in the dark" so I'd be completely surprised. Also, I've watched a ton of shows on HBO. The Sopranos, The Wire & Oz are all up there with my all time favorites. I just don't recall those shows or Boardwalk Empire or True Blood going all out with nudity & multiple sex scenes in their respective premieres. Not that it's that big of a complaint from me; I understand it comes with the territory but, I can see how some people would be turned off by it. Personally, I'd enjoy the show just as much if there was no nudity at all, as it isn't needed to tell a good story, IMO.

Sorry just watched both episodes tonight and didn't catch up on the thread until now, but what??

True Blood is and always has been ridiculous with regards to nudity and sex scenes. This has been extremely tame compared to both True Blood and Boardwalk Empire.


But on the topic of the show, I loved it, can't wait for next Sunday.
