Re: *** The Office: Season 7 ***
I may have spoken too soon about my frontrunner. I might have to let it marinate a little bit. I used to be very tired of what I thought was his relatively limited range, but after his role in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I've given Jim Carrey a lot more credit and probably cut him more slack than a lot of folks. I thought he was great in that film and his mention tonight caught me by surprise. A part of me thinks he could pull it off. But come tomorrow, I might think the complete opposite.Comment

Also, more thoughts regarding the actual show that aired tonight:
-Toby's brother with his shelf full of preserves was hilarious to me
-Enjoyed the shot of Michael placing the trophy on his desk in a strangely familiar fashion
-Pretty cool to hear Michael acknowledge the documentary, saying to the crew, "Let me know if this ever airs. . ." before taking off his mic. Real cool.Comment

I agree. But from what I've heard, there's certain obligations or this "been there, done that" feeling that makes him an unrealistic candidate.

I fear with a platform such as The Office, we'd simply see the usual Jim Carey. We wouldn't get a character, we would get Jim Carey. Which is no fault to him, it's just that I feel he's too big for the role.
I just can't believe Gervais wouldn't step on for a season considering his cameo earlier this year. I have a bad feeling it won't be him, but he is the best replacement in my mind.Comment

Carey has range, but it is completely dependent on the writing and direction. With Eternal Sunshine, he had a brilliant script to work with written by Michel Gondry and he was also the director.

Also, I agree regarding Gervais. It's tough to get a feel for what the writers have coming down the pipe. The talking down of Ricky could just be misdirection. I'm horrible at figuring out this type of stuff.Comment

Re: *** The Office: Season 7 ***
Enjoyed the show tonight, pretty emotional. I thought they did a good job with it. I wasn't sure how it was going to end, but it was good. I also liked the "let me know if this ever airs" line. And of course, it was only fitting that after Michael took off the mic, the last line he uttered was, "That's what she said"........

Sounds like it was a good episode, unfortunately for me Comcast listed a repeat as the episode for tonight so it was never recorded, awesome. I hate watching shows on the laptop so I guess I will have to go with an alternate route for watching it, anyone else with Comcast have an issue like this tonight? They had "Garage Sale" listed aat 10:00 as well as 8:30 which clearly cant be correct.Comment

I think i would hate it if Gervais was the replacement, but I guess I'll really have to wait and see what kind of role each of the applicants have in the finale.Comment

Great final episode for Michael. Found it ridiculously sad as well. Steve Carell will be so missed on this show.

Re: *** The Office: Season 7 ***
My biggest issue is I felt there were not enough moments. The show should've been dedicated to Michael saying goodbye. The Lost In Translation style ending with Michael and Pam wasn't good enough to me. We deserved more of it. It seems they tried so hard to not make it predictable that they ended up making it very predictable and plain.
I rather would've had them give us just Michael saying goodbye to everyone and had good writing and dialogue between them carry the episode. I understand they wanted to continue the story, but for me this is an episode where you say forget the story arc because one massive one was ending with Michael leaving. Give it the time it should have.
It didn't feel like Michael left at the end which to me speaks volumes of how poorly it was done.
This coming from someone who had a few tears when watching Jim and Pam's wedding. Also nearly teared up when Jim and Pam were engaged as well as Michael and Holly. So it's not as if I wasn't expecting or wanting something emotional but compared especially to Jim and Pam's wedding, this episode was just poor.
It's on par with the writing this season, which is below average.Comment

His final interaction with Dwight was very well done. I am going to miss the Michael character, but am looking forward to the rest of this season.
