It seems this movie has compiled a lot of very good acting talent. I'm hoping that the actual story and production is as top notch as the casting. Sometimes when you have a movie that's casted THIS well it can sometimes be a horrible disappointment.

Something I just learned but there is a Superman The Movie Restored International Cut in the making. The original Superman The Movie was over 3 hours long, but was edited for theaters. Rumor is there will be a 3 disc DVD set coming out in September of 2012 and that an even more restored version of Superman II will be coming as well which will be nearly 3 hours long. I hope this is true there are clips all over you tube of lost scenes from these movies that would make them so muche greater than what they already are.

I do hope the new music at least attempts to feel special like Williams music succeeded in doing but like you I don't think it will match up to Williams themes. What I don't want is an abbundance of rock tunes as Superman is best suited to orchestral music as it makes it feel more special. Heck I would get Williams himself to score the film and see what new stuff he can come up with along with some of the older themes mixed in. It won't happen I know but it sure would be interesting.

I would LOVE that. I've seen the original Donner Cut (tho not this 3 hr cut) and thought it was a lot better than what the world got to see in '78 (i'm referencing the 1st Superman film as I haven't seen the other longer cut of the 2nd one)

The Donner Cut of II that is on DVD is shorter than the one that was redirected by Lester and released in theaters but to me is better. The repowering scene in the Donner version of II is very nice as it has a very emotional exchange with Jor El and Superman. All scenes containing Brando was removed from Richard Lester's version of II even though Donner filmed them. He actually filmed roughly %85 of Superman II while also filming Superman the movie. But I would love to see the longer versions of both these films.

Just in case no one has ever seen the restored scene here it is.

They removed alot of Donner's footage from Lester's version to make sure Donner didn't get credit. So Lester went and re-shot some of Donner's scenes. I like the Donner cut but I would like to see it revisited at some point and tweak it a bit more. Some things I would like to see removed is the screen test scenes as they just seem out of place and distracting. I know that's the scene that Donner was to have used in the film but using the screen test to me just didn't work properly. Also I would have used Lester's ending rather than seeing the same spinning the world backwards ending as the first film. Brando's scenes were great in the Donner cut and has alot more impact than Lester's version. When your younger you don't realize all the politics going on behind the scenes for these movies. It wasn't until a few years back I looked into all the problems and turmoil Superman had gone through and the bitterness between Donner and the Salkinds.

Actually the spinning the world backwards was suppose to be in II only. Donner had originally filmed for Superman I to end with him sending the rockets into space and exploding to release Zod and his minions from the Phantom Zone. He would have just super sped to them launching them to space before any of them made impact with Earth, no drama of having to save Lois and the state of California. The Salkind's did not like that ending and wanted something different(spinning the world backwards). By this time Donner and the Salkind's was beyond speaking terms and Donner knew he was on his way out.

Yeah I had read that but I still would have went with Lester's ending when doing the Donner Cut. After he spins the earth backwards it messes up everything thing such as the diner scene with the trucker as the fight now never existed and Clark's return there at the end isn't as meaningful because they shouldn't remember him. Also the Zod, Non & Ursa events never happened and are still in space and the fortress of solitude was never destroyed etc. So basically what we watched for the last 2 hours never happened. That's what bothers me the most about the film even though I really like it I just a wish little more thought had been used.

Your right but had Donner been allowed to do his complete vision here is what the ending of II would have been with Lex escaping prison again leading into III where Lex and Brainiac was to be that main antagonist against Superman. Makes me wish we could have seen Donner's complete vision for the entire series.

On a side note I am too much of a Superman nerd and have too much worthless information in my head.

It would have been great if Donner had been allowed to continue to do more Superman films but we can only dream. Either way I still enjoy the films and love talking about them. As for being a Superman nerd your not alone. Plus I think we now have officially hi-jacked the thread. lol

Yes we have, lets get back on topic. We can start another thread if we hear anymore of the extended versions in the future. I hope they come to pass.

But before here are links to the original scripts. They are great reads.

Okay some photos surfaced today over at the Superman homepage of some vehicles on the Smallville set. One is a dump truck that either Superman or another Kryptonian or perhaps Metallo if he is in this film. The side of the truck is smashed open like something went through it and the roof is also riped open like someone would have flown out of it. It's a pretty cool pic and has gotten me really excited that there may be lots of action. Set pics

Yeah I think with Snyder there is no doubt there will be action-a-plenty. Whether or not the story will be coherent and makes any sense is the worry.

I'm sure it'll be all good though.
