As far as budget 4K TV goes, when I'm working at Best Buy and the person wants a 55" or so, but doesn't want to spend the money on a premium set, this is the one I suggest.PSN-Shugarooo

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I have friends with 4K LED televisions. Still not into the tech. It's mostly regarding motion and uniformity.
I just don't need a new TV right now anyway. When I do jump in though, it'll likely be OLED or Samsung's real QLED.
I was watching Green Zone last night and was just in awe how much I still love my Sammy plasma picture for films.
Check out this AVS article
In 2016, console gaming took a huge leap forward thanks to several exciting developments. Sony announced the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro, a suped-up machine that supports 4K graphics and HDR. Additionally, the company enabled HDR support on all existing PlayStation 4 units—over 50 million...

My next big boy upgrade will not be with the current set of televisions, though. They are not yet at the technological advancement I am looking for with regard to films.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
I've already read that article before, and have stated that if I get a 4K HDR TV for gaming, it will be more monitor-sized and not a whopper. That is and always has been an okay thing for me to do. Though I have also mentioned that because of my post-concussion syndrome, it is hard for me to look at things that are extra bright.

I disagree with your assessment on the way these TVs handle film as far as high end led TVs. Like you I hate extra bright pictures too. I think you might need to demo in person great looking HDR so you can see how screen brightness affects HDR. Not all TVs are made the same. I think you should really check out a 4k HDR blu ray on a mid to top end set. It might change your mind. And trust me I hate torch mode on TVs lol. I can't stand when I go to someone's home and the tv is extremely bright. It bothers my eyes. That and overly saturated colors drive me nuts. Maybe you think I like watching tv like this: lol

Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread
^ Haha not quite, I never said you did. But I think you think I've been too stubborn to both research and experience new-wave television sets with HDR. I've seen it all, I know what it looks like. I think it's amazing. The technology is still not what I'm waiting for yet, though.
I'm awaiting dynamic metadata. I'm awaiting 12-bit color. I'm awaiting UHD BD's that are properly mastered. I'm awaiting a good drop in price for an Oppo player that can support them. I'm awaiting Darbee to put out a 4K-ready device. I'm awaiting Samsung to jump into emissive technology and for the OLED market to jump out of its LG-monopolization (now that Sony is in on it, this will help for the future).
I never said that these TV's aren't better than my plasma; I said that given what I need and use right now, there is no need for me to upgrade yet. I still believe plasma handles motion better than anything other than projectors though.
Look, if I was able to pay $3000 now and then $3000 again for another upgrade in two years, I would. But high school teachers have slim pickins to work with. I am not filled with a certain amount of jealousy of other people's sets where I think it is time to upgrade though, unless these televisions were all future-proofed to the point that everything else which gets integrated could be upgrade via firmware or passed through and encoded by the player.
That's why I bought my new Anthem receiver now instead of later. I knew that Anthem won't come out with another line for two more years, and it has what I'm looking for (room correction software, Atmos and DTS:X abilities, the power I was looking for, etc.), and even though it is 4K-ready, it will not be able to do dynamic metadata but players with two HDMI-outs means this is a non-issue for me. It doesn't matter that my current living situation doesn't allow me to have heights yet for speakers, I know that when the time comes I'll be ready and I won't need to bother looking back. Otherwise, I would have held off getting a new receiver as well.
Shtuff like that. I just know that when it comes for me to purchase a new television, I am only prepared to have others be jealous of my product without me having to have paid pretty pennies prior to that panel (pardon that previous play on palabras that are prefixed with P). I don't like looking back at a generation and saying what could have been.
I really do appreciate what you're lending to me though, Artman. I just don't yet dig this generation of displays like others do. Just not yet. Almost there though, almost! I still would argue that a 4K plasma with HDR would be best, but that just ain't happenin'.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

They're ratings are pretty scientific and unbiased. You can put in the Samsung you were looking at the the Hisense H8C to see their side by side ratings. Click into each TV for detailed analysis. The H8C is completely even with the KU6300.Comment

The new LG OLED have virtually no motion blur according to Rting.com. I'll be honest I was a huge plasma fan and like you I loved the motion on it. LG has managed to lower the input lag via updates. I believe if they can fix the ABL issue and manage to keep the input lag low how they have it now after the latest updates OLED is the way to go. I still think the price is too damn high, but I normally upgrade my tv once every 5 years. Off topic, I didn't know you're a high school teacher. That's great it was my first interest and major when I first went to college years ago, but ended up doing a totally different career which I love.

I have bought two plasma TV's in 2011 and 2012, so I think I'm good until at least 2018 to make another purchase. The problem isn't just getting the TV though, and I know I said this in another post once Buying the TV means buying it for a reason, such as 4K. That means I'm looking at buying the PS4 Pro, a UHD BD player and 4K discs, etc. I'm not looking to splurge that much cash on something right now. If I wait it out, I'll get the exact set that I want and am ready for, and those things will be at a much fairer price as well.
It's funny that I'm the person who recommended to take "plasma" out of the title of the thread, and yet I'll still defend it in all its glory.Though I also defend OLED to death as well. Note that the only technology I'm backing away from is LCD, even with what Samsung is doing with their 2017 LED's this year.
