Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

HDR, "faux" HDR, 4K, Dolby Vision, Quantum Dot, QLED, full array backlit dimming, edge LED lit, etc....This generation's tech terms are endless....But in the end....If it looks great to your eyes....that is all that really matters!

I can already hear whispers of 8K! God help us with all the terms when that hits shelves! Along with the PRICE!

How did you enable it? I just picked up the KS800D at Costco today myself and havent had time to do much of anything with it so if you got a tip for me it might save me some me some time and potential headaches.

Go to settings, picture, expert, HDMI UHD Color and turn it to ON for all of the ports you want HDR enabled on

Probably. A lot of the needing the $3000 model is psychological. The picture quality is certainly better, but if you aren't really aware of the specific detail, it's much easier to not feel nagged by not having the best TV out there. Once you take a bite of the apple (the tech specs)....

No 4k TV on the market looks "bad." The differences are only evident through making detailed comparisons.

Not necessarily. The PS4 Pro processor is roughly twice as powerful as the PS4 processor and it could help you with framerate and smoothness even with a non-HDR TV.

And the ps4 pro has the 5ghz WiFi too which is a huge upgrade I don't think many people talk about. I use WiFi now and it's fast as heck

Lastly, you can still display 2160p and 1440p content even without HDR.

Absolutely agree with this statement. This is exactly what made my search much more difficult than it should be....Thought LG OLED, 65 inch for $3k (now $3500) was truly my only option if I wanted that premium PQ....Went with a choice, half the price (now even a bigger price difference)....and feel I got a steal but most importantly, got the 'inky black levels' that I was hoping for....and to get it in the price range I did....I'm in 4K eutopia! Lets hope it lasts.

My only issue now....Should I have went 75 inches?!?! LOL!

Not trying to start a console war, but isn't it kind of a waste without a 4K blu ray player?

A week prior to owning a set I'd have said no but each day that Xbox One S is looking better and better. Turning out to be a little more difficult than I had thought it would be to find movies to rent or buy over the net that are 4K and/or HDR enabled.

Vudu is 4k if you own a Vizio tv but not if you're on Samsung like I am.

I'll have to check out ultraflix and see about them, haven't heard of them before.

Oh ok. I thought vudo was on everything. I think it is on the hisense too. I think Samsung has a smart box or something that has some preloaded 4k movies. Not sure

Yeah, well my TV did come with an app for Vudu but its just 1080p. So when I went to their site evidently they have some sort of deal with Vizio and none with Samsung.

Here are the devices Vudu supports to watch 4K movies:

                              4K Ultra HD playback only
Roku 4, Premiere, Premiere+, Ultra (paired with a compatible 4K HDTV)
                              Roku 4K TVs
                              VIZIO P-Series 4K HDTVs
                              VIZIO M-Series 4K HDTVs
                              Nvidia Shield TV*
Google Chromecast Ultra (Dolby Vision will be available pending an firmware update from Google)
                              Xbox One S*

4K Ultra HD + Dolby Vision HDR playback
                              VIZIO Reference Series HDTVs
                              VIZIO 2016 Smartcast P-Series 4K TVs
                              VIZIO 2016 Smartcast M-Series 4K TVs

Just found this, evidently VUDU has released 4K app to Samsung but they (Samsung) need to get a firmware update out to all of us Samsung owners to download and use the 4K app.

An on-going list of devices that are certified for Vudu UHD content playback. Last update: 12/31/18 You may purchase or rent Vudu UHD movies via a web browser, mobile apps, and select living room devices. However, 4K UHD playback will be dependent on your device set-up. 4K Ultra HD Playback only Arris Mi4 (2017 IP900)
