Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

Looking like I might be in the market for a new TV again in a couple months.

Should I just go with the C1? Gaming features are the most important thing for me. Movies being second.

I'm probably gonna have to do 55'' if I do that TV just because of the price. I see it's around $1,500 right now. Is that gonna sit around there for a while?

Been around that price $1500 to $1800 since probably June or mid May. I know it been a while. Biggest problem is finding one in stock depending on where you live. The only OLED that I see readily available on a consistent basis is the Vizio OLED. The Sony A90 OLED, A80 OLED, LG C1, LG G1 are basically always sold out and you have to wait a few days to almost 2 weeks. It is a tad bit better now though, I Know in May and June the back order was 20 to 30 days. I know currently, just looked at the Best Buy website for my closes location and all their OLEDs you can't pick up until Wednesday and can't get them delivered to your house for 2 weeks except for the Vizio OLED and a few of the last year models.

Amazon has the C1 in stock and I would get it on the 24th if I ordered today. Which I'm not, but hopefully it will be there in a couple months. Maybe I'll get lucky and the price will go down a bit. Target also has it.

So with the C1, how is the Dolby Vision and HDR? I know OLED's tend to not get super bright. So that's a bit concerning for me.

Not sure on the Dolby vision but it's plenty bright that I haven't gotten complaints about it from someone that complains stuff is too dark. HDR is even bright enough but it's at 100 by default.

Thanks for the reply. That's my only concern is that DV will be too dark.

I'm just concerned about brightness overall. Worried HDR and DV won't look bright enough in games and movies. Can anyone weigh in on this?

Went ahead and ordered the C1 last night. Will be here on Tuesday.

I've honestly never seen an OLED TV up close. I cannot wait to play games in 120hz and watch movies on this thing.

I started with 1 OLED, now I have 2 in my Game Room and another in the bedroom.

                        I'm very excited.

Does anyone know if the Rtings settings are a good base to start?

I would say play around with it first to see what you like before you go searching for adjustments. Rtngs tend to like their stuff dark from what I noticed. Which is fine if you watch in the dark I guess, but I don't watch stuff in the dark.

                            It's a decent baseline.

Do you think I should get it professionally calibrated? I'm not even sure how much it costs, although I'm sure it's pretty expensive.
