Ok, so a pawn shop in the area has a brand new Sony KDL-60NX810 for sale for only $2300.

The TV sells for $4200+ online and in stores.

I can probably even get it for less than $2300 if I go with cash ... it is still obviously under warranty, etc...

Does anyone think I should jump on it?

Imo screen lag should be the number one factor when buying a TV for gaming, and historically plasmas lag way more than LCDs, and the newer type of models like OLEDs and what not forget about, they're gimmicked up with processing i dont think you're gonna find many lag free models at all right now. Note RESPONSE TIME DOES NOT EQUAL SCREEN LAG, RESPONSE TIME DOES NOT EQUAL SCREEN LAG! It is unrelated. This matters if you play games where reaction time is important, but i think in gaming, especially online gaming this should be important for everyone if they wanna be competitive, frames do matter.

This thread here over at SRK users have tested many models for lag so searching the thread for a model number is not a bad idea, also scroll down the page i link 3/4 of the way down to the post by cables and he lists a number of good methods to test for screen lag; http://shoryuken.com/f177/new-defini...ml#post8179925

Over the weekend I picked up a 28" Hannspree 1080p LCD from CompUSA for $249. I'm using it as my PC monitor and for the occasional console gaming. Even at 28" it just seems like too big for a monitor, and the 32" Vizio I had before this for 1 day felt like it was bigger than the desk it was on. LOL! I couldn't find a 26" with 2 HDMI 1080p lower than this price. So far I'm liking this one.

I saw the 52" version of this set. The only flaw I saw was in off-angle viewing. Once off of the sweet spot, the picture began to fade/wash-out. Other than that, it offered some really nice PQ

Such a tough decisions, because that is a phenomenal price, considering what it normally retails for.

How do you know it is still under warranty? Sony would ask you to provide proof of purchase.

I'd call and find out from Sony their process on something like this. They may not honor the warranty as they may declare it a "second-hand" item.

Just something to think about.

Interesting. The TV is not even a year old from when they hit store shelves and is new in box... so I just assumed that it would be honored.

I'm not saying they do, but I can imagine it would be a possibility. They ask for proof of purchase on all warranty requests in my experience... and I don't know if a pawn shop receipt will be acceptable to them.

Just making sure you cover all your bases before jumping in.

Sounds like something that "fell off the truck" if it is in a pawn shop in the original box.

Well yeah, that was my first thought, haha!

I guess ethically I should not buy it anyhow ... considering the thoughts of someone who probably stole it and pawned it for dough is the almost obvious reason.

Did not want to start a new thread but I was wondering for those who own Plasma's if you ever notice images on the screen after you turn your set off? I even notice it the next day when I cut my set on. I'm just a little worried about burn in.

This sounds like the beginning of burn-in. I would suggest you begin running break-in slides immediately.

Also if your TV has a Pixel Wash/Orbiter option run that for about 15-20 minutes before you turn OFF you set regularly to help prevent further damage.

EDIT: It looks like your TV has an option called: Image Sticking Minimization (ISM) this feature is offered in 3 modes. I suspect those are: Low, Medium & High.

After going back and forth between the Panasonic TCP-65VT25 and the Samsung PN63C8000, I chose the Samsung PN63C8000. I talked to Chad B (ISF Calibrator) and he said with the latest firmware upgrade, he puts the C8000 above the VT25 as the best PQ he's seen to date. The Samsung is also a better deal. The best price I could find on the VT25 was in the $3800 range while the Samsung was $3100 shipped and included 2 pair of glasses, all 3 Shrek movies in 3D and a Samsung Blu-Ray player (BD-C6900).

I've ordered through Cleveland Plasma and hope to receive it next Monday (or possibly this Friday). I've already downloaded the break-in slides. Can't wait to get this thing and start breaking it in. Since I've never had a plasma before, any advice outside of not leaving static images on the screen, don't watch 4:3 programming etc...

How old is your plasma, or better yet, about how many hours do you have on it?

I experienced this to a small extent with my Panasonic during the first 500 hours or so, but it was hardly ever noticeable. Like you said, it was only when I first turned the set off. Usually after playing a video game or watching a blu-ray. Or maybe after watching a TV channel with a prominent static image(ESPN).

Unless it's really noticeable, you're probably not experiencing anything close to actual burn-in. Maybe just some minor ghosting or image retention. Could you see it if you turned you tv right back on? You might just need to knock your contrast down a few clicks.
