Re: LCD or OLED? - The TV Thread

I've been reading about screen size, viewing distance, and 4K. Basically, a TV size of 77" is actually good if you want to maximize 4K, especially if you're going to be sitting pretty close to it like me. When playing games I'll be sitting 6-7 feet from the TV, when watching TV or movies 10-12 feet. So I think 77" is a good size for 4K. Also LG has something called Super Resolution to help with pixel density.

Cool video. LG 4K OLED vs. Samsung 8K QLED.

So I got my wife to give the go on the Series X, an old PS4 slim to play the Show again since I sold mine a while back, iPhone pro as well.

So now we move on to the TV lol. She always breaks down.

We are moving, hopefully within the next couple months and whatever house we choose must have a finished basement. The living room will keep the X900F, and my new "man cave" (I think that's a weird word.) Will hopefully have a brand spankin new either LG OLED, or Sony OLED.

If you’re gonna do gaming on it, do the LG OLED.

So OLED "burn in". Is it actually burn it or just temporary IR?

Is the "issue" better, the same, or worse than plasma? I'm still rocking a 2013 plasma and it will have temporary IR, but always goes away. I legit played like 350 hours of Modern Warfare/Warzone this year and had some IR constantly throughout all other watching, but then I switched to gaming on a monitor and it went away after about 15-20 hours of normal viewing.

I don't plan on upgrading until this TV dies either way, just curious.

It’s better than Plasma. Burn in doesn’t go away, Image Retention does.

I've ran into this with my entertainment room I'm remodeling. It's close to 900 square ft and putting a large sectional adjacent to a wall puts the viewing distance to any other wall pretty far.

My 65" is fine for watching TV and it's really a first world problem that it's not big enough, but I want to be able to enjoy movie night a little more so that's why I've finally committed to the projector route. I think even if I upgraded to a 77 it wouldn't matter because I can't sit close enough to it without putting furniture in the middle of the room and I don't want to do that.

If I use an entire wall for a screen now that's immersion

I think most gamers should understand what you're saying too because I game on a 27" 4K monitor and it's perfect. If I moved it to my other room and sat on the couch it would be awful.

So do OLEDs have actual burn in, or people just think IR is burn in and freak out?

They can burn in but it takes actual effort in making that happen. With technology built into the tv like pixel refresher.

I've had my heart set on the 77' LG CX for a while now and over the weekend I've been 2nd guessing myself should i go down to the 65'. I feel like the 65 is the smart option even though I want the bigger size.

                                77 Inch
+ I've been waiting for a few years for this day and all along wanted the biggest size
                                + $ isn't a issue
+ I don't have anyone to answer to when deciding this

                                - I usually sit on the end of my recliner to play games so not a huge distance away when i do that

                                65 Inch
+ If I get the 65 now then in a few years I could move it into my bed room and justify buying a new TV. The '77 for my bedroom probably wouldn't fit.
                                + $1,600 is still a lot $
+ I currently have a 52 so its still a big upgrade from that

                                - I watch a lot of TV also so the bigger size would be more useful for that
