      Late to the party

Fox is 720p according to this list

I always thought Fox looked the worst well before I saw this.

CBS is 1080i. NBC is also 1080i, but I always thought it looked the best for NFL games. I use an antenna so it's all less compressed than cable/satellite/streaming.

Not sure of the science behind it, but every TV I've owned and done settings for has sharpness at 0 or somewhere near 0.

Just a quick question. I own an LG Led tv & would like to know if it's best to leave the black level on Auto or low? There's a high option as well but that just males the blacks more grey so I ignore that. Thanks.

I'm going to guess you primarily would want to just leave it on Low. Auto sounds like it would switch between Low and High, depending on the room's lighting or the information passing through. Not sure, though.

My second guess (and one of the reasons I'm still waiting on purchasing the current run of TV technology) is that "High" may mean that they don't shut off pixels, and instead they let each pixel simply get as dark as it can on its own. That way you don't get this stark contrast between the second-lowest pixel brightness and a shut off pixel's lack of brightness, if that makes sense! In this case, may Auto is the way to go?

Ok thanks for the info. I'll mess around with it but most likely will just leave it on auto for now as it's been fine. I was just curious what the differences were. Appreciate the help.

I wouldn't know because I don't have an OLED haha. I guess if Auto hasn't hurt you so far though, it may not be too bad.

I'm sure if you go to AVSForum and find the owner's thread for your model, you'll get exactly the answer you're looking for. In fact, I'm not doing anything right now so I'll try and look it up for you.

EDIT: You know what? I thought you said OLED. Everything I said probably flies out the window now, since LED's can't shut off pixels, as they aren't "lit" by their pixels per se. They have a backlight that can shut off smaller "zones" though.

Im thinking of getting a new tv but I cant decide what to do. I currently have a LG C6 that has pretty bad burn in so I dont want another OLED. Ive been thinking of getting the Samsung Q80T. That seems to be the next best thing besides OLED. I would wait for micro LED but we are still a long ways away from it being affordable.

Maybe Ill wait and see how the 2021 TVs are. I also need to contact LG as some people have had luck with them replacing their screens due to burn in issues even out of warranty but living on an island in Alaska it seems doubtful they would do that.

The image retention technology has come a long way since the C6, with that being said the Q80 would be a great choice. Micro LED definitely won’t be affordable, since The Wall costs about $1000 per inch.

I have the B7 and I think it’s a great tv, but terrible for gaming because HDR gaming is really dark. From time to time I see a little image retention but it goes away. I also have a C9 and it’s worlds better in my opinion. It’s the best gaming tv with the lowest input lag when ran native 4k 120fps, very bright HDR gaming, never seen any image retention, free sync and G-sync compatibility. After getting the C9 last year there’s no way I can go back to any kind of lcd/led TVs. The perfect blacks and picture you get doesn’t even come close. Like Scott said these TVs have matured a lot and come a long way since the C6 you mentioned. We use our C9 daily at home and I never baby it and thank God never had any issues with retention or anything else.

Just looked up the Q80 49" and really tempted but it doesn't have Dolby Vision...will think on it. On sale right now for over 800

The light bleed and bloom from LCD/LEDs is enough for me not to like them anymore.
