Re: Plasma or LCD?
Some help from anyone if you have any?
I want a nice HDTV, I want one bad ... I am heavily leaning towards the PN50C8000 Samsung, since it is a phenomenal picture and does good 3D and much cheaper than most other 3D displays. My only concern is burn-in and image retention (what is that anyway?).
But my head is still spinning. I want something that has little to no input lag for gaming, which I know is hard for a HDTV. Since I am used to gaming on a Dell Ultrasharp for years, I am afraid I will notice the input lag ... but I also played on a newer Sony 3DTV (800 or 810 cant remember), and I did not notice a difference in The Show (in game mode), even though AVS "claims" they are "so so" for input lag. I swear these people are cyborgs.
I am also considering the Vizio XVT423SV, since the price per performance is fantastic. And the picture quality is almost on par with a Panny or Sammy plasma. Cnet reviews claim the 1080p/24 is not too hot on it... do I need that feature? And what is so hot about that feature over just watching things with the "soap opera effect (which I like)" in 240hz?Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 12-24-2010, 12:22 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
Anyway to have to different TV settings for Games and Blu-Rays if using a PS3? I want to have different TV settings for when I play games and for when I watch Blu-Rays, but I'm using a PS3 as my player so it's only one input on the TV. Any way to do this? It's a Samsung LCD.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
This TV has a pixel shift feature that shifts the pixels either 2 or 4 rows every 1-4 minutes. I set it aggressively at 4 every 1 minute. Some people claim that you can see the pixels shift, but I was not able to. I've turned that off now that I'm running the break-in slides as I don't want the pixels shifting while it's breaking-in.
I've only had the TV for one night and this morning, but it has a phenomenal 2D picture. I haven't had a chance to watch 3D yet, but by all accounts, the picture is also very good.
Like you said, this set is a bit cheaper than other 3D models. I was between this and the 65" VT25 by Panasonic. Considering they both are supposed to be great sets, I couldn't justify the extra $$$ for the VT25. Most sites have this set around $3100 while the VT25 is around $4000. That's a big jump in price.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
The Samsung plasmas have these options? I'm just wondering, I'm not huge in the plasma screen market so I don't know what kinds of options they have. I just know that I have a Panasonic Vieja that's kind of one of the older HDTV sets around and it's very limited to its picture settings, there's no real way to do ISF calibration or anything unfortunately.
And this is actually really jumping around so I'm just wondering, but if you have one of those Harmony universal remotes is it possible to change picture/audio settings like with the touch of a button, in a sense? Because every time with my Samsung LCD and HTiB I'll have to go to my menu and turn off game mode, then go to my sub-woofer dB volume and increase it by seven (personal preference for games). Things like this would be much easier with a remote that can do it all with one easy access feature, and I didn't know if Harmony actually provides this for you.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD?
Does game mode have it's own set of settings though? For instance, I wanted to play the Dead Space demo last night, the brightness was so low that I had to turn it up on the TV, but the brightness would be too high for movies. I don't want to have to manually change the settings back and forth.Comment

I have the 63" version of that set. I was worried last night that I'd have some burn-in or IR while watching the Steeler game (the score sits in the upper left hand corner). After the game, there was nothing.

If you can keep us updated with impressions and such after you break it in, that would be fantastic. Especially how responsive gaming is, etc.

Unfortunately I won't have much time with the TV until Monday (holiday party at my in-laws tonight, party here tomorrow, traveling to another party on Sunday).Comment

I checked out COD: Black Ops just to give it a test run about 30min ago. I had no issue with response. I even tried it in 3D and had no issues with response time on that either. I'll have to give The Show a try as that should be a very good barometer. BTW, I did not put the TV into Game Mode while playing COD. Game Mode has it's own settings and I'm not going to mess much with that until it's broken in. I figure it shouldn't take long to break in if I just let it run at night while I'm asleep.

Re: Plasma or LCD?
Good afternoon Fellas,
I was looking into buying a 55-65" 8000 series Samsung LED to go in the living room. My current TV is a 2.5 year old 58" 1080p Samsung Plasma.
Since I watch a lot of sports and play a lot of Madden, would this move be a bad idea? I hear LEDs can turn pretty choppy when handling motion of a sporting event.
One of the main reasons I'm interested in LED is because I like the soap opera effect it puts on movies and tv shows. (I'm in the minority, I know)
How does/would Madden 11 look on an LED? (compared to plasma)
How do sports look on an LED? (compared to plasma)
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks,
MartyComment
