Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
After getting used to my 51 inch, I can't believe that I was ever happy with a 32 inch tv. Even though I couldn't fit a bigger screen in my room, I still feel like I should get a bigger one.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
My girlfriend's dad has two Panny plasma sets and they both look outstanding. In fact, before seeing COD played on one of those sets, I wasn't too keen on a plasma set. But in the same night, I played some COD and watched a UNC basketball game and was in love lol.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Yea man, Panasonic plasmas are the real deal. What I like about the Panny plasma over the Sammy plasma is the darker blacks and better motion resolution.
But the Sammy plasmas have reference colors at an almost perfect level
Not to mention that Panasonic plasmas are great for gaming due to little input lagComment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
How bad is the heat thrown from a big Plasma set? When I check them out in the stores it seems like they can get pretty hot.
I ask because my family room is pretty warm in the summer...we have central air but that room does not cool off easily as it is so big and the AC was a retrofit job. Other electronics in the room as well.
Currently have 52 inch Samsung LCD from about 2 years ago...

Plasmas do let off heat and Samsungs have the most but Panasonic plasmas heat is not as bad....Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Lol. I know, I know. DVDs are so 2001. Like I said before, I'm not that big on having the latest and greatest of anything, so having a Blue Ray player was way down on the priority list...especially when we've only had HDtvs for the last 2 months.
Now I realize I'll have to break for it eventually...but then I have to buy blueray of all my DVDs...and I have A LOT of DVDs.
That's a good idea on my calibration. I'm going to do that when I get home today. We watched Alcatraz on HD and I really noticed the colors being off...plus I was getting fuzz on the picture during low light situations. After reading a couple of things today, I realized I never set my receiver for HD. I assumed it just naturally was shooting 1080i from the HDMI port, but now I'm not so certain. So I'll check that out when I get home as well. Hopefully that will solve the "fuzz" problem in the background, because that was really bugging me.Comment

I have a Panny plamsa and have a gaming rig coming in tomorrow. I'll be running the setup through HDMI obviously but I noticed with the Panny there is no way to turn off overscan. Is this something I should be worried about? Hopefully the picture is okay. The GPU is a high end card so it should auto adjust for any issues that may arrive.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Does your DVD player at least have an option for component cables? That is a start. Spend $3 on getting some component cables since the DVD player probably have progressive scan. That alone will make a noticeable difference. Blu ray players will play DVDs, so you won't HAVE to convert them all over. I didn't do that with my DVDs just so I could still play them on my laptop in the car or something.Lol. I know, I know. DVDs are so 2001. Right now I just play all of my DVDs through my 360 with the component cables. Like I said, for a DVD, it looked beautiful. I was really pleasantly surprised.Does your DVD player at least have an option for component cables? That is a start. The one thing I did yesterday was look online for some settings suggetions. After changing a few on my receiver and the TV, I'm even happier with the picture.
There's still some weird grain that happens in low light conditions but it's usually only noticeable in backgrounds. Probably doesn't help that I'm sitting 7 feet away from a 60" screen either

1.1
Dot for Dot
Native Mode
This will help if not eliminate any overscan you are seeing

I don't think this is possible to set on mine. The menu is very basic. I'll have to double check to see what options there are when I get home.Comment
