Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Order some HDMI cables while you are there. They are a few bucks cheaper on Monoprice, but comes out to pretty much even after you would have to pay for shipping on MP.Comment

Well which set did you get man??
Here's the one I'm going to be getting soon:
http://www.amazon.com/LG-55LM6700-55...=14D7X5ZYB1GCD
This one would replace my aging/dying bedroom tv...a Samsung DLP 5088 set that my tv repairman said would cost about $600 to fix.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I went with the 60" LG that Gamecock posted. Didn't want to worry about shelling out for 4 pairs of 3D glasses for the other one and I know I'd feel compelled to if I got it.Well which set did you get man??

Talk to gamecock about breaking it in. Also google some setting for it. The "vivid" or "standard" whatever over setting it comes on by default is usually crappy.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Ok, well I have decided against Plasma because the 3D effect is active and I don't want active 3D. I have viewed active vs. passive in the store and passive is better looking to me. Active 3D also gives me a headache and I don't want to have to fool around with pairing the glasses, not to mention I don't like the fact of the glasses costing you so much more than passive glasses.
With that being said I was tempted by the plasma as I've read it's got better viewing angles but having gone to Best Buy yesterday I felt the viewing angles for the LG LCD I posted were not that bad.
You said the LG that ollie posted, I went back and he posted a Panasonic link...or did he post another link earlier back that was LG??Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I saw a Best Buy employee talk this old guy into $100+ HDMI cable. Two of them in fact. I waited until the Best Buy guy left and went over and talked to the guy. He seemed very appreciative to me informing him and I figured he was going to put the cables back. I saw him checking out though about 20 minutes later with the cables.
The only thing dumber than spending $100 on an HDMI cable is doing so knowing it's not needed.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Oh yeah, and maybe this is a dumb question but here goes..will I need a "special" HDMI cable to support 3D? I ask because my initial instinct was that was crazy, any HDMI cable would work just fine, but reading reviews of these 3D TVs I've seen some people allude to some HDMI cable issues regarding the 3D working or not working??Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Ok, cool. You realize that's active 3D isn't it? That's the more expensive glasses you have to buy. I thought I read in this thread you wanted the cheaper glasses (passive 3D).Nah, the one that Gamecock posted, this one:

Will do. I think I read something about that.
When I demoed the active vs. passive 3D at the store last night I was already a bit biased to passive since the glasses are lighter and far cheaper. But after witnessing both, wow, I think the passive was far superior to my eyes. The active 3D was somewhat blurry and just didn't "pop" out of the set nearly as much as the passive 3D did.
That's the reason I'm 100% going with passive 3D on my set.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
That isn't 3D at all, active or passive.
I didn't want to worry about getting 3D glasses at all, that's why I chose that one. I just said I'd feel compelled to if I got a 3D set, because hey if it's there, why not use it?PS: You guys are great.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I have the nicest TV of anyone on this forum (at least that I know of) and I have never once even put my set in 3D mode. I don't even have a 3D BD player and never plan on buying one. Why do people really care about such a silly gimmick anyway? The PQ on my set is so amazing that I couldn't imagine viewing it any other way.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I thought I wouldn't ever do so, but then I remembered I have a sister who admires seeing that the "gimmick" is possible at home. I have a PS3 and I future-proof my Blu-ray purchases that have 3D capability (so I don't have to double-dip later if it seems to be the way to go). Also, if I play Killzone 3 with the Move, I like to activate 3D as well. It's just kind of fun sometimes.I have the nicest TV of anyone on this forum (at least that I know of) and I have never once even put my set in 3D mode. But you're right, it wasn't a selling point for me to buy the D7000 at all. At the very least, it just so happens that the better television sets out there also have 3D, so it's not like I could have opted out of purchasing for that feature either way.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
