Hey Giants, how many TVs do you have? It seems that every time someone posts in here you say "I have the same one" or "just got it delivered". Seems to me a little bit of a stretch...

I locked out and got it on amazon for $1450 delivered. Now they have it for $1950

If I get the FW fix then is s keeper.
Can't you get a firmware update through the internet? Or do I actually have to call Panasonic? I have a feeling if I called them they would not have any earthly idea what I was talking about.

Also, if the issue you are referring to is fluctuating brightness (correct me if I'm wrong) I might have noticed it. There were a few scenes in Lord of the Rings where it seemed like the picture got darker/lighter at times but it was SO subtle that it was hard to notice. I replayed the scenes where I thought I saw it. Sometimes I think I did, other times I did not.

Either way, I just don't see how this could be an issue that would keep me from loving this TV. Its amazing. I'm still completely satisfied with it, BUT if there is a firmware update that will fix this slight problem, I'm all for it.

Please let me know what I need to do if you have any luck.

Yup, that is fluctuating brightness and it kind of flickers. If it is something that isn't bothering you, I would keep the set to be honest.

The FW update you will be able to d/l off their site or if the GT31 has wireless or is wired to your network you can automatically update. To some people this is a huge problem and I can see where it would get rather annoying if it constantly did this. I hear its worse when sitting in a dark room since it becomes much more noticeable.

I notice it MAYBE 3 times during a movie, maybe. And again, when I think I see it sometimes I'll rewind it and try to notice it again. Half the time I can't see it the second time. This does not bother me at all. Now if it constantly did it, sure, that would get old.

Also, I checked online and can't find anything about a firmware update that would fix this. The only one I can find had to do with Netflix.

I have 3. Do you want pictures of them as well.

I have the GT30 and the Samsung UNB8500 along with the PN51D7000 and my prize TV the Pioneer Elite Kuro.

MY B8500 is being sold though.

They will know what you are referring to because many have complaint and all the reviews have stated that this is an issue. Others notice it more then others but it is there. Another movie that it shows it a lot on is the Dark Knight. Movies that have a lot of dark scenes.

I would not mind the FB if they can fix the gama just being 1.9 on THX mode which is the best mode on the set.

As it stands 1.9 makes the picture a bit washed out. Gama is not available for tweaking in the menu for THX or the service menu.

If they can fix the game with a firmware then this tv would be incredible.

I will keep you posted if they say something.

In regards to the fw for the fb i heard that you must request a fix because Panny thinks that not everybody would notice

You can also check in the official thread at AVS since people will post there about it. Just try to steer clear of the complaints since all people do is bitch on those forums about the problems.

The GT30 is now becoming available, time to start an official thread for it Here's a link (below) to D-Nice's 2011 ST30/GT30/VT30 Reference Settings Thread..... Post #1 is how to properly prepare the panel, and Post #3 has his reference settings to use on the GT30 after faithfully...

Cool, thanks. Funny you mention the Dark Knight, I watched that the other night. To be honest, I didn't really notice it that much. It definitely did not take away from the movie from me. I'll probably watch it again tonight. Again, the bottom line for me is, of course I'll take a fix, but I don't really notice it enough to take away from the overall experience.

                    BUT...

When Panasonic decides to put a firmware update out, I'll take it. And I'm still a little confused. Panasonic is working on a firmware update, or there's already one out? And it fixes one thing but not another? I guess I'm confusing myself. I don't really know what all this gamma stuff is. It may be asking dumb questions but I guess I don't know enough about it.

Are you a calibrator or home theater installer or just an AVSForum junkie? And hot damn you must have some major dough to afford all those displays, LOL. I'm looking at a new one in the next year and the prices are crazy!

It's ok. I will find you a video of a guy showing the issue. But right now the word is that Panasonic is only providing fixes through request. Could be that they send you a fw via usb stick. That fixes or help reduce fb.

Gama is what helps the dark and brights change properly depending on ambient lights. It being 1.9 sucks because there is no pop to blacks and colors seem washed. It should be about 2.2 to 2.4

This is not an issue in custom mode since you can set Gama but thx is the best setting due to proper color fidelity.

Am just an AV junkie. Do not have tons of money but moved to new house so I sold previous tvs and bought these at great deals.

So should I call Panasonic? What exactly should I ask them if I do? I use THX while watching Blu-Rays and I think the picture looks fantastic.

If you see it as fantastic then enjoy it. Sometimes videophiles pick up on things that the average user does not.

The FW that panny has is not about the gama, it is about the FB

The Gama they have not even stated if they would fix

I love THX mode but the Gama on it sucks and the fact that you cannot change it like you could in Custom settings blows. But hopefully Panny will allow a fix via FW in the future

So if I call Panasonic and ask them for a firmware update to fix the fluctuating brightness they will say, "alright, we'll mail it to you."? Can you give me a number I should call?

Also, you are obviously knowledgeable about what you are talking about but I have no idea what is wrong with THX mode. I don't even know what you are referring to when you talk about gamma, to be quite honest. I think that Blu-Ray movies look amazing on THX mode. Do I notice some fluctuating brightness? I guess so.
