The D7000 is just as good PQ wise as the D8000 minus a few features. It's right under the top of the line Sammy plasma the D8000.

I just got my Samsung 51" 3D plasma the other day. I never knew that games could look this great! After playing on a 22" LCD monitor for years this is a whole new world.

Serious question, is screen burn now a non issue with new plasma TV's? I've heard that you would almost have to try and burn in an image these days. Still, I see from the E3 videos that EA's football games still feature a static score banner that never goes away regardless of whats happening on screen. Is it something I should be worried about at all or a non issue these days? Cheers guys.

With plasmas, especially new plasmas, burn in and image retention is what people worry about. Burn in, which is permanent, is almost a non-issue with plasmas. You'd have to be extremely careless for it to happen.

Image retention, which is temporary, is where a "ghost" of the previous image stays for a while. It could last seconds to minutes. Plasmas have things in place to minimize and correct this. Color wash, white wash, pixel orbiter, etc

The best thing you can do is make sure your Sammy isn't in vivid or torch mode. Also, make sure you lower the contrast to somewhere between 50-55 for the first 100 or so hours. Most people also suggest running break in slides to speed up getting to that 100 hrs mark. The slides also help the plasma phosphors to age evenly.

                      Enjoy the set.

I listened to a podcast that featured an article that said Samsung has replaced Panasonic as #1 in plasma sales in the US.

Just wait until 1 tire gets low and you have to replace all 4 because it's AWD.

Don't get me wrong, I have 2 AWD cars (a Lexus GS350 and Infiniti G37)....love them both and love the AWD, but I just took the Lexus in for an inspection and 1 of the wheels would not pass inspection because the rubber was too low. I had to replace all 4 tires for $1000 because you can't replace just one tire in an AWD setup. The Lexus actually came with runflats, but I didn't put them back on my car because they ran $300/tire and the ride was a bit rough due to the harder sidewalls.

Thanks for that Gamecock. I'll definitely lower the contrast, I actually the prefer the image with a lower contrast, it looks more natural to me.

I'm loving the set. 3D is a bit 'meh' so far but I'm loving the look of my blu rays and games.

I've been a LCD guy from years back, but am looking into getting my first plasma.

I'm a Samsung fan, so the PN59D8000 looks like the total package to me. I've had my eye on it for a while now and CNET just gave it a glowing review which makes me want to buy one even more. Any thoughts on this set, pros and cons, or anything else I should know? I don't know much about plasmas, but I'd like to learn.

Here's a review from Calibrator Chad B, who calibrates for Cleveland Plasma. Though it's not for the PN59D8000, it is for both the 51 & 65 D8000..
