Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
The Geek Squad guy is sitting down calibrating it right now. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll stick to what he uses, especially if he doesn't go into the color space or anything like that, then it's not really a full-on calibration. At least he is knowledgeable, but I just don't think he's using all of the equipment that he can be.
EDIT: Nevermind, now he's jumping into the other stuff. Even still, he turned on Full Range RGB on the PS3. I don't think many, if any, plasmas do the full 0-255 spectrum, do they? I thought only PC monitors did that.
Anyway, as long as everything he does is from a technical standpoint and not an "eye appealing" standpoint for justification, then I can make any such "eye appealing" tweaks afterward.Last edited by Blzer; 09-21-2012, 01:30 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Well, he's already gone. He was here for forty minutes. Here was what he did/changed:
* I asked for CAL-DAY/CAL-NIGHT options, and he enabled them.
CAL-DAY
Cell Light: 20
Contrast: 95
Brightness: 36
Sharpness: 22
Color: 47
Tint (G/R): 50/50
Color Space: Native
White Balance: 28, 25, 21, 3, 30, 16
CAL-NIGHT (assume any figures I don't re-state are the same as CAL-DAY)
Cell Light: 8
Contrast: 96
Brightness: 35
Sharpness: 25
Tint (G/R): 49/51
White Balance: 25, 25, 26, 8, 35, 14
Honestly... the whites look more accurate I guess, but I'm feeling a green push, maybe just something that I'm not used to. Anyway, it makes me want to call up Chad B. right now, knowing that he'd be here for significantly longer, doing other things with my television.
Sharpness not <10 is already alarming for me, IMO.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Been researching HD projectors...anyone here got one? Impressions? Been eying the Epson 8350, dont really need 3D. Picture quality sounds fantastic, but Im a little worried about bulb life.
Last weekend a buddy and I gamed on a wall projecting at ~100" and it was...AWESOME!!! Game changer! Even noticed input lag (PS3) was way better compared to what Ive experienced on a Vizio LED and Samsung LCD tv. Hooks are set, ill have one eventually...just want to make educated decision.Comment

There is no way in hell that our TV should have the sharpness anywhere near that high.
Mine is at 3 right now and Chad spent a while getting just that setting right.
He was toggling between 2-5 and found that 3 was just right after further tweaking.
22-25 in insanely high, especially for a plasma.
I am assuming you are still in Movie Mode under Warm2, correct?Comment

Bulb life (and cost) is the one downside that comes with the territory. Some people get the expected life span of the bulb and some get a couple days past the warranty. Just luck of the draw really.
I have a Hitachi 3LCD projector that I got last fall for free doing a teacher program. Only test driven it a few times, but I like what I see.
If LED projectors ever get as bright as LCD or DLP projectors you'd have the best of both worlds. Big screen and long lamp life.Comment
