Some people will say no, but I will say there is reason to worry about static images. Not saying you'll get burn-in, but you might get IR.

The best you can do is between gaming sessions run some sort of 16:9 content with no static images (or the scroller). When they are playing, make sure it's set to 16:9 with a pixel shifter. That will at least help.

Thanks. Gonna side with caution and move the Xbox up to our main level on our LCD tv.

Once I get over a certain number of hours (100+), am I relatively safe? I absolutely love the picture quality on the plasma compared to LCD and LED, but am paranoid about burn in with video games.

There's no saying. I've had mine since last October, and I still avoid static images if I don't need them (say I'm by myself and multitasking while watching ESPN, I'll use HD Zoom to get rid of the bottom ticker). If I watch a two hour movie with top and bottom bars, I'll still put the TV on sleep mode for a half hour and run the scroll bar. I'm sure I've accumulated nearly 1500 - 2000 hours on this TV.

Just to be on the safe side, is all.

Plasma still suffer either IR or burn in no matter what tv you get. Plasma will get you the best picture in optimal viewing environment, but most people don't watch tv in the optimal environment.

LCD is the best to me, but I usually have lights on and I don't want to worry about what is on the screen.

I got a Samsung UN65ES8000. For some reason the 65" model suffers from bad vertical banding. I returned 2 and still didn't get one without banding. Its not just Samsung, but all larger edge lit models, Sony, etc. Sharp may not, but their picture can't compete with Samsung/Sony.

The 60" though doesn't really have any issues, so I ended up exchanging it for the 60". Looks great and doesn't have any banding.

            Alright, newbie question here.

We have an older directv receiver and it won't work with our sons new Toshiba HDTV. I contacted Directv and they said I needed coaxial cable for this to work.

What kind do I get and what price range. We have Wally's, HHgregg, BB, Target, Home Depot, etc.... in our area.

            Thanks.

What other inputs are on the receiver? I would seriously consider upgrading the receiver if it doesn't have HDMI or component.

RCA , s-video and coaxial would just be wasting the high definition of the HDTV.

But to answer your question directly....any Walmart like store should have coaxial cables for $10-13.

He will be having the TV in college for 9 months, so, what we will do is swap out our DVR Directv upstairs(a newer one, but just with coaxial, S-video and white, yellow and blue) and get a new HD receiver upstairs.

We'll probably upgrade receiver later. I'll see what directv says, too.

They will probably give you an HD receiver at minimum, they want to get rid of all those old receivers.

                    Update:

Spent nearly 2 hrs on the phone with Directv.

First they came out with 199.00 for HD DVR plus $99.00 for receiver, plus 3 months free HD service. I knew that would go over like a lead balloon with my wife.

Told them try again, and they knocked off $50.00 on the HD DVR. I laughed and said my wife won't go for that either. We both said no.

I was put on hold for close to 30 minutes, she thought I hung up. She finally t/t her supervisor and came back with $199.00 for the whole house to be connected. Pfft, how is the different than the previous offer? Plus, nobody cared to record off one DVR and watch it on any other HD receiver, ie downstairs.

Came back and said, best I can do is the $50.00 off the HD DVR. Frustration level increased and I said, better put me through to retention services now. Guy came on and said, I could do $99.00 for equipt install and knock off $8 per month for 6 months for dvr service. I thought my wife would go for that, but her deal was because we've been living in the dark ages, we finally get an HDTV and now, we have to pay $10 more per month? lol, oops.

So, came back, and the guy said, look, I can go down to $68.95 w/o tax on equipt, but I can't double dip from the extra $10.00 charge, it's one or the other.

So, we took the deal, $78.44 including tax, plus, they need to put up a new dish(he didn't think about that, said, don't worry, it's covered) and the near $50.00 off for DVR service for the first 6 months.

Not too bad, I think we walked away pretty good, but not sure why you need to jump through so many hoops to get what you want sometimes.

Good deal. Seems like you have to go to retention in order to get the best deal. I'm with directv as well, but dish just sent a flyer in the mail. Should probably try to get a deal on a HD DVR.

Thanks for all your advice GC!!!

Yeah, the front line CSR wouldn't budge off the $50.00 for the HD DVR. I threw 14 yrs of loyality at her, plus the Dish mailing for $20 bucks a month for the first year.

Once I t/t retention services, I gave the nuts and bolts, and they wheeled and dealed.

I will give Directv credit. They have taken away some sort of option of throwing the excuse you will go to cable because they are now working with u-verse. They tried to get me do deal with them last night with u-verse, but I own a business out of the home and don't want to go through the rig a more of changing email addresses.

                        Just an fyi.
