Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Gotcha. Lookin at roughly $360 for 2 sets of the bookshelfs (Best Buy) and the C-10 center channel speaker (Amazon). It's part of their ad if this is what he was referring to.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
So if I did opt for some bigger floor standing speakers would I be putting myself in the same boat? Meaning I am at the bottom end of a higher level of speaker? I saw that y'all recommended a Bic brand sub. I'm obviously creeping up on my "budget".
Bic PL-72 - $279-$299 shipped for the pair depending on where I get it from.

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I'm a fan of floorstanders for the fronts if you don't mind how much space they take up. I've only used Audyssey and have been happy with the results. never owned a Yamaha receiver. So if I did opt for some bigger floor standing speakers would I be putting myself in the same boat? Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I have the BIC PL-200 subwoofer, and Klipsch towers from last year's Black Friday deal. At an 80 Hz crossover frequency, I think I could have found a better match-up... but separately these are both pretty good. My main hindrance is the placement of my sub in my room. I think it would punch more in a more desirable place, but that doesn't exist in my small bedroom with a bunch of furniture.
Oh, and YPAO sucks. For the record, I have a Yamaha RX-V667. Looking to upgrade very soon. Nothing wrong with it, but I was looking for 7.2 receivers and now I just want to go back down to 5.1 (with bi-amp capability) at the same price point.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
For those looking for HT equipment I would suggest
Marantz, Yamaha, KEF, Focal, Polk, Def Tech, Denon, Bowers & Wilkins, Home Theater, Speakers, Receivers, HDMI, Onkyo, Pioneer, Klipsch
They are an authorized reseller with great ratings and customer service

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Alright so what do y'all think of a bundle like this if I decided to get a little crazy? I assume it would help making sure the individual components place nice with each other. I am sold on getting floor standing speakers and having my budget be around $1100-$1300. I still don't have a receiver I'm sold on though. Is it true Klipsch usually requires a more powerful receiver?
Klipsch bundle
Priced out individually on Amazon this comes out to $1523.
BIC bundle
This is actually a bad deal. Priced out individually with a current promo code it comes out to right at $1000. I used their "make an offer" link and did one for $800.
I set my budget purely on being cheap. I did the same thing with the PC I built last year. $700 budget turned into $1100 and I felt myself wanting to upgrade a year later. And yes I realize I am being the most annoying person in the world right now. I wish y'all were working off commission. I'm very grateful for the time and advice!Last edited by SuperBowlNachos; 11-27-2013, 05:14 PM.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Well....that changes everything. Even with the Klipsch set bundled together, that only leaves $100 for a receiver if you're trying to stay around $1300. Some compromises are going to need to be made or up the budget some more.Alright so what do y'all think of a bundle like this if I decided to get a little crazy? Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
I threw that out there just because I'm so confused at this point as to what might match up good. Getting the PL-200 would be nice. I'm still all for suggestions. As long as it's something that isn't overpriced I think I will be happy. Sticking at $1,300 will be ideal.Comment

Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread
Hey guys, I hope this is an OK place to ask this. I really need help
I don't know anything about "input lag" and "game mode"
For my whole life I have pretty much just plugged in my console and played.
I have been using a low end Samsung 720p TV for the last 5 years or so.
I was able to get a new Samsung 1080p (model number UN40F6300) off Amazon for only around 400 bucks with some gift cards I had lying around. Seems like a decent deal.
I am excited to get some 1080p gaming going on with my PS4.
That being said, when reading reviews, I saw mention of "input lag" and "game mode" for the first time.
It sounds like with game mode off the input lag is 120 ms on this model, and with it on it is what the reviewers referred to as an "above average 30ms." However, when I researched game mode a lot of sources say it kills picture quality. Will turning game mode on make my games look crappy, when an upgrade to picture quality is the main reason I purchasing a new TV in the first place? Please advise. Is 120ms input lag acceptable for gaming? I mostply play sports games online and everything else mostly single player
I am in flux now and starting to panic. Should I cancel my order and buy a more expensive, large PC monitor to hook my PS4 to since it has low input lag and no picture quality reductions?"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Edit: putting this edit up here instead of the bottom because this is something important (arc = audio return channel) that I completely overlooked when browsing slickdeals thread on HDTV ....
Your search for great deals and coupon savings ends here. Find the best bargains and money-saving offers, discounts, promo codes, freebies and price comparisons from the trusted Slickdeals community.
Originally posted by daddyo1This looks very similar to the Walmart $428 deal from a few weeks ago. I have it. If you are looking for a screen and plan on providing everything else, it will get the job done. The screen itself if fine. The speakers are so bad my wife commented on it, and that's saying a lot. No headphone out. No ARC. Either I got a bum units or plan on using some auxiliary speakers.
If anyone in the NJ area wants mine, I would gladly sell it cheap! I need more functionality.

Probably the perfect thread to ask, but I really don't have a concrete answer for you. Hopefully someone else can add more to the discussion about input lag and gaming mode and picture quality.

Something to think about. Do you want multiple monitors in your room. I personally only have one centralized "monitor/HDTV" in my bedroom (Sony HX820 55") that I use for gaming (PS4/PS3), tv watching, computer work, plus HTPC. All my components are kept inside a closet.
Best Buy HDTV Black Friday Online deals (Thursday to Saturday). Some pretty good deal. As far as the specifications are concerned, not sure which would be best in your case.
