Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

Got it all set up! Need to do some cable management. The tower boxes working great as temporary stands. Permanent placement of the rears has been shot down. So I am going to have to get some banana plugs. Definitely will have to go for a 10" more compact sub. I have less space than I thought. A massive sub just won't work unfortunately. Finally finished as everyone was going to bed. So all I could experience was calibration and the first 10 minutes of Transformers on blu ray. Thanks again for all of the advice.

Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

But I'm still subless and not done yet...

Leaning towards the BIC F12 or PL-200. Seems to have positive reviews on AVS. Screw the size. Might even order from Home Depot (yes they sell it) and have 90 days to return it. F12 is $206 + tax and PL-200 I can get for $279 shipped.

      *EDIT*
Ordered the PL-200! Can't freakin wait. Might have them do 2 day shipping on it if it's not too outrageous. Listening to music on a Logitech 2.1 system for PCs. I think I am going to be blown away by what I have coming.

Do you need to break in a sub before you let it loose?

I figured for $69 more I might as well. The F12 was at $203 before tax and the PL-200 was $279 total.

I let all of my speakers break in. If you're using traditional speaker wire it takes about a month, maybe a little more and you'll have to let your system warm up for about 5-10 minutes.

I bought the Audioquest Rocket cables and they are freakin' awesome. I wouldn't say buy them now, but they are bi amped cables all in one cable. I definitely noticed a jump in quality when I got my cables in...I would say look into those speakers in like 3-4 years.

Also, don't place that sub in a corner...I have mine by my couch and love it. I can feel the bass and it's not just a large boom sound, it's crisp. A corner will make it just loud.

I'll look into spending hundreds of dollars on a single cable when I have $20,000 worth of equipment.

My sub placement is going to be tricky. My options are pretty much to the left or right of my TV. Both options put it between the tower and the TV. Being behind the couch will be vetoed unless I get a wireless adapter. It will be even more limited until Christmas is over because the tree takes up all the space.

Nooooo. Sub won't be here until until the 11th

Based on what I have read over the net expensive speaker wires are simply not worth the money, at all. The only real way to 'prove' anything would be do some scientific double blind studies, and I don't believe studies have ever found any differences between expensive cables and less expensive ones. Personally, I would save the money.

I ended up getting a 32" LG from Amazon. A bare bones model(not a Smart TV), but that's what the Blu Ray Player is for. I've been going back through my old DVD collection, looking at certain disks. While DVD's look nice, I'm noticing black lines/blurs on the edges of anamorphic DVD's, and other artifacts on the edges of 4:3 DVD's. After reading around, this is apparently a common thing.

It's more so to effectively bi amp a speaker with the best connection possible. I had Monster speaker wire hooked up before I got my Audioquest and there was a difference when I hooked up my AQ. My buddy even came over not knowing I switched it out and asked what I did to make it sound better. I'm not a firm believer that HDMI cables make a huge difference, even though I own AQ Vodkas, but I get accommodations and stuff. All of my wiring is AQ from HDMI to Ethernet. I spent a little more money, but if someone spends money on a system like I did, spending an extra $500 to have quality speaker cables is nothing. I don't know if I'd use them for the klipsch speakers, but for anything high end, I wouldn't think about not using AQ.

I have a 65" Panasonic VT60 waiting to be picked up by me at Best Buy. I don't need a new TV today, but when I move into my new place I will want to upgrade from the 42" 720p Panasonic plasma that I would be taking with me. Just debating now if I want to go ahead and get it now where it will likely sit unused for a couple months, or just wait until the pre-Super Bowl sales and make the jump to LED (or Samsung plasma). If I wait all signs point to Panasonic plasmas being completely sold out forever so that is my dilemma. Thoughts?

I'm looking to get a 32' TV at around $250 or so (don't know prices exactly). Anybody have some suggestions for a good TV at around that price range?
I know next to nothing about TV's so any help would be appreciated.

What kind of surge protector do y'all use? Right now I have a 60" plasma and sub (came today!) plugged into one that was $10 and the receiver on a separate outlet using the same model. Was looking into getting one that offers better protection.

I use Panamax and Monster...just my personal preference. I do it for the warranty they offer.
