Re: Plasma or LCD? - The TV Thread

My parents might be needing a new TV soon. Thinking about getting them one on Black Friday. They have mid-level Samsung plasma that was $800 2-3 years ago, and now it won't turn on 75% of the time. I assume it will cost hundreds of dollars to fix since it's out of warranty.

They don't need a TV with HDR. They won't ever have a 4K blu ray player.

    Thinking about this for $799

    Or for $648

    $798

The Wal Mart TVs I'd only go for if they are online also or guaranteed for an hour. All 3 of these look like Black Friday specials with no reviews yet.

if those are the only choices then the third one is the best of the 3

I've got the 55-inch version of that LG and love it, despite the lack of HDR.

            Via Amazon:

A:*Both the 60" and 65" version have two options for leg placement. I have the 65" version (now wall mounted) but the outer placement holes are about 47" apart and the inner placement holes are about 34" apart. The legs flare outward about 3.5" each, so tip to tip outer placement would be about 54" and inner placement would be about 41".*

The LG specs for there OLED lineup says the input lag for 4k gaming is as follows:

              4k @ 60Hz + HDR: 38.2 ms
              4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 + HDR: 38.2 ms

and the Samsung KS8000 is 20.6 ms 37.2 ms respectively. For the improved picture quality for TV/Movie viewing, I may forgo the input lag difference since I don't play shooters.

              Unless I go for the 75" KS9000

RTINGS does actual test and post their test which is why they are highly respected for testing. Look at the test from what i mention and see the results posted

Yet they also claim is the same tv....They wont call it a slam dunk better set and neither did I. All I said was that the contrast, brightness, and motion blur along with a bit better input lag is on the curved set. I owned both and returned the 8000 for the 85000 due to the motion blur alone which was bugging me...When to watch the set and noticed the brightness and contrasts was a bit more apparent and checked the stats on RTINGS and confirmed it

Is it a drastic diff? No but for the extra 100 I paid which is in most places those bumped specs are enough

If you really look at difference it's not much at all. On motion blur I believe the difference is 2ms. If you can notice 2ms with your eyes you have some supernatural powers lol. All jokes aside even Rtings as you like to refer to a lot recommends the ks8000 out of the 2. The ks8000 also have better color accuracy. The differences are so small that they honestly shouldn't be mentioned. One is curved and the other isn't.

Oled is awful for gaming man

I wouldnt do it. Youll hate it.

Movies may be a different story but gaming is not a good idea

Then again you dont play online or anything so you might be ok with it.

                  Definitely consider your decision

Thinking about pulling the trigger for the KS8000 55 today. Only things "holding me back" are I can't pick it up with delivery being the only option and I'm not sure if it will fit on our current console (it measures out to 47" wide).

It won't fit. The 55" screen itself is 48" wide (using Pythagorean theorem heh), never mind the slim bezel around it.

I just want the stand to fit on it for now.

These are just what I found on a quick scan of TV ads. I'm up to anything under $800 that can be bought online or has a guarantee in store. I wish Amazon would just do an add for each of their departments.

Oh, I was thinking you meant it was like a "cabinet" where it would hit the walls on the side of it or something. You're in good shape then. It will just hang off of it slightly is all then.

It'd worth it. Covers everything aside from accidental damage or if it gets stolen.

Covers pixels going out, panel going out, hdmi going out, just to name a few.
