If not you don't then, do you have a birthday coming up? If not, just tell your wife that you're getting yourself an early Valentine's Day present.

In the future just remember that "it's better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission".
You know my birthday is on Valentines Day! Good idea. Maybe now when she asks what I want for my birthday I'll just say "Hmmm...well how about permission to use all my gift cards your mom bought me for Christmas to get that new 4K TV??"

    Worth a shot!

Well see that's the thing, I do agree but these are all gift cards.

I'm kind of hoping maybe for the Super Bowl the tv is a little more discounted and it wouldn't cost me anything then (I have $477 total right now) so then it'd be no out of pocket expense.

Yeah, I totally get that and it makes sense....

I just find I have to categorize things as wants vs. needs (my wife does too) and a new tv isn't a need by any means.....Plus we have kids, so more ways money needs to be spent.

I just know that finances can be the cause of many couple fights and whatnot, so it's good to be cognizant of it

I agree and I know when to back off. I also agree with her (and this sentiment) that waiting is always good when it comes to technology, the longer you wait the better a deal you get and the better technology you get.

So I will continue to wait but in the background I'm plotting and planning bwahhaha...

All I do know is I want to definitely get a 4K TV sometime in 2017 to put my new PS4 Pro to good use.

And yeah this should all be filed under #firstworldproblems eh?

Just think, zombie apocalypse hits and suddenly finding fresh drinking water is my top priority, not HDR10 or refresh rates...LMAO

Pretty off topic but the back of my bedroom tv just sparked and a burning smell. Right now it works fine but I can not find anything that might have caused it. The outlet/surge protector is fine.

I would unplug it and do not use it! Especially if you fall asleep watching tv at night.

They aren't the same QLED's as they're working on. These are LED's with a rebranded name.

it looks great, waiting on the price for the 77" one

I think I saw the 65" being around $8,000, so I'll be skipping for a while. Should be able to hold out for a few years when there is more 4k stuff out there. Future looks great.

I wanted to clarify this a bit more:

"Q" is the 17th letter of the alphabet, and Samsung found it an opportune year (2017) to misinform their customers on their emissive technology they are working on (much like OLED) to be what they displayed at CES this year. That would be incorrect. The Q7, Q8, and Q9 televisions are all edge-lit LED-based LCD television panels.

Now, that does not mean the TV's are bad, not at all. In fact, they (and others who attended CES) state that it's the best television they have ever made, and in some ways rivals OLED with the way they are presenting quantum dots. They claim that viewing angles are nearly as impressive, if not more impressive, for lack of any discoloration when viewing off-center, and that metal coating around the pixels (or something or another) helps with that as well as improving black levels and such and such.

It's enticing, but it is not FALD (full-array with local dimming), QDCF (quantum dot color filter), and it most certainly is not the emissive technology that luminates each individual pixel much like OLED. That has yet to come. I do wonder what that will be called when they do it, but it cannot and should not be called QLED anymore. Whatever it is they call it is uncertain, but it still has a ways to go before it launches.

These televisions do look spectacular. I'm still just not an LED fan. Plus, I don't know if they have Dolby Vision integrated in these sets. We are very, very close to have fully "arrived" at this 4K generation properly.

So wife wants a $150 gift card to the spa to get her nails, hair or whatnot done for her birthday. I told her that was interesting because...that was about the same amount I needed to have to buy my new 4K TV...

Hmmm........could be a VERY interesting next 6 weeks (my birthday is Feb 14 and her is end of January)

I hear what you're saying. They show the tv side by side with an LG OLED and you can see how much brighter the Samsung gets. I still think OLED will have the deepest blacks but aren't going to give you the best HDR picture and this has to do with their limitations on how bright they can get. These new Q series are reaching 1500-2000 nits while still maintaining their deep blacks and the full color spectrum which is very impressive. I hope OLED will get their input lag in the high teens or low twenties like Samsung has been able to do on their sets. As far as FALD I had the flagship 2016 Vizio which was FALD and my edge-lit ks8000 looked a lot better. As far as LED tvs I feel like Samsung's quantum dot tvs are great. LEDs have come a long way and it's something you have to try at home and not go by some Best Buy in store demo to appreciate them. I was a hard core plasma guy, but now that tech is super obsolete. I'll eventually get an OLED, but when they fix some of the input lag issues and get their screens are able to handle HDR better. I want to see the other LG OLEDS coming out this year to see how they do.

I have friends with 4K LED televisions. Still not into the tech. It's mostly regarding motion and uniformity.

I just don't need a new TV right now anyway. When I do jump in though, it'll likely be OLED or Samsung's real QLED.

I was watching Green Zone last night and was just in awe how much I still love my Sammy plasma picture for films.
